Pretty Little Liars fans have grown accustomed to having their mind blown every Halloween, with an epic Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode. However, it appears we won’t be having our minds blown this Halloween by our favorite group of liars. A PLL fan asked Joseph Dougherty, one of the writers of the hit series, a very logical question on Twitter. If the show picks up on the second half of the liars’ senior year, how will there be another Halloween? In Rosewood when the show resumes it will be springtime, not October. Dougherty replied with this tweet, “We’ll show it at Halloween, but it isn’t set on Halloween.” It appears the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode, won’t be about Halloween. Bummer! But, we do have the introduction of the Ravenswood (the Pretty Little Liars spin-off) characters to look forward to on this year’s non-Halloween Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode. Here’s a look at the previous Pretty Little Liars Halloween episodes (that have actually been about Halloween).
“The First Secret” (Halloween 2011)
This entire episode was a flashback to the last Halloween the liars spent with Alison, Miss DiLaurentis was alive and well, and causing trouble as always. And this episode was riddled with clues and shocking revelations. The liars and Alison got decked out in their extremely corny costumes (Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, etc) and went to Noel Kahn’s annual Halloween party. Alison set up a bizarre prank, gone wrong, and tried to scare the girls at an old abandoned house. The creepiest part about this Halloween episode was the opening scene though. Alison is telling a little boy a story about identical twin sisters, who were fighting over their dolls. One sister brutally murders the other with a butcher knife. Also during this Halloween episode the fans learned that Ali was being tormented by “A” before she disappeared, Lucas was a part of the “A Team,” and Detective Wilden knew Jenna Marshall before she was blinded.
“This is A Dark Ride” (Halloween 2012)
This Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode showcased the liars celebrating Halloween in the present tense. The liars board a spooky Halloween train ride decked out in amazing costumes, and find themselves trapped on the train with “A” and guest-star Adam Lambert. By the end of the dark ride, Garrett is murdered, Aria is almost shoved off the train in a coffin, Hanna is groped by a stranger in an Ali mask, and Spencer is assaulted. The creepy twin that murdered her sister in the previous year’s Halloween episode also makes another appearance, in Hanna Marin’s house! Fans are still speculating about the little girl and whether she was supposed to be a ghost, and a clue that there will be a twin revealed (like in the books by Sara Shepard that the show is based on). In true Pretty Little Liars fashion, the writers dropped a bomb on the fans during the episode. Before Garrett’s untimely death he informed Spencer that the last person to be seen with Alison the night she disappeared was Aria’s Dad, Byron Montgomery. This revelation launched the Pretty Little Liar fandom into a frenzy, speculating whether Ali was having an affair with him or blackmailing him about his affair with Meredith.
