There are only two more episodes before the highly anticipated Season 3 finale. Creator and executive producer Marlene King has promised an action-packed episode that will answer some big questions. The episode on Tuesday, March 5, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” continued to raise even more theories and speculations about the A Team and what happened to Allison. Here are some theories, speculations and questions to think about before everything is revealed.
Is Toby Really Dead?
In “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” Spencer (Troian Bellasario) found a body in the woods that she thinks is Toby (Keegan Allen), but she is distracted by Mona (Janel Parrish) before she could see his face. In “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” both Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Doctor Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) question if it was really Toby that Spencer saw. Fans of the show are also skeptical of Toby’s Death. The body did have the same tattoo that Toby has, but why the need for him to be wearing a helmet? It was also a little strange that his shirt just happened to be lifted where his tattoo was, making it seem like it was done on purpose as a way for Spencer to identify him without seeing his face.
Right before Spencer followed Mona to the woods, Mona was shown with a large amount of money, and she told the person on the phone that all the money was there and on her way. Perhaps she was paying for the death to be set up or paying for the tattoo to be replicated. But the body could have just been Toby laying down pretending to be dead.
One of the sneak peeks for the next week’s episode on March 11 shows Emily, Aria (Lucy Hale) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) explaining to Spencer that they found a body in the woods and it was a camper, not Toby. Spencer doesn’t believe them, convinced it was Toby because of the tattoo. The body Spencer saw did look like the person was camping because we saw a pitched tent and other camping equipment, so what does this mean? Maybe the camper was found elsewhere, and Mona just happened to set up the body at that spot, or Mona found the camper dead and had that tattoo put on him to make it appear to Spencer that it was Toby.
Another sneak peek shows Hanna and Emily in the morgue, looking for John Doe, who I am guessing is the camper that was found. The promo shows them opening one of the body bags to reveal a male wearing the Alison mask from the Halloween episode. Could John Doe turn out to be Toby?
The promo continues to raise questions as we see Emily’s mom sitting her down and telling her that another body was found, making it seem that there is a second body found after the camper. Was John Doe really just a camper and now Toby was found? Or has someone else turned up dead in Rosewood?
I think that there is still a strong possibility that Toby is not dead, as Marlene King mentioned that someone will rise from the ashes in the finale. It also seems strange that his face would be covered, and that Mona distracted Spencer just before she was about to confirm that it was Toby.
In a flashback in “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” we see Alison (Sasha Pieterse) talking to Spencer about her diaries. She tells Spencer that she is writing them for her, and that she will need them when she is gone. Perhaps Alison did plan her death, or maybe she knew that something might happen to her. In present time at Radley, Mona had told Spencer that those diaries “contain answers to questions that she hasn’t even thought to ask.” We saw in flashbacks that Ali was also targeted by A. Was she trying to leave the girls information to help them out if and when it happened to them?
We all thought about the possibility that Wilden (Bryce Johnson) could be dead after being hit by Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton), but it has now been revealed that he is alive and well. Wilden demands for Hanna to give him his car back. Why does he want the car back so badly? He could just get a new cop car, but instead he seems desperate for that one. Does he want the security tape from the car? Is there something, or maybe someone, hidden in the car?
In the promo for the episode on March 11, we see that Spencer finds a visitor pass or CeCe Drake (Vanessa Ray) that was authorized by Wren. In “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” the real E. Lamb tells Spencer they had problems with the security badges and also an issue with a staff member and visitor passes. Could Wren be involved with the A team? Why would CeCe visit Mona? There have been a lot of hints that maybe CeCe is involved somehow. Here are some of them:
- She was close friends with Alison, but Alison never mentioned her to the Liars.
- She knows Melissa.
- The Liars mention how much CeCe is like Alison.
- Ali told her all of the Liars secrets
- CeCe was shown in a flashback wearing the same shirt, or one very similar to the one Ali was wearing the night she was killed.
- She was at Cape May.
- She was packing something red in her suitcase, perhaps the red coat?
- She visited Radley.
There are a lot more clues that myself and other fans have picked up on, but does it all mean something, or is CeCe Drake just a red herring?
The third season finale is set to be a night of big revelations. Soon enough, we will have our questions answered, and I am sure we will have new questions to ask, as it has been said the very last scene will create the mystery for season 4.
