With the promises to impress the viewers with the strangest moment in the liar history “Pretty Little Liars” returned this week with the episode called “Under the Gun”. That`s definitely an appropriate title because a good number of characters are connected to a gun (think Hanna and her parents). This episode was full of surprises, spookiness, as well as a number of WTF moments.
Orange Doesn`t Suit You After making one mistake after another Hanna finally fall straight into A`s trap and ends up at the police station. Detective Tanner, the fair and insightful investigator is questioning Hanna, telling her that she doesn’t want Hanna to go to jail one minute and then casually mentioning that she might go to jail for seven years the next. The gun that Hanna tried to bury in the woods was meant to hold six bullets but only had four when the police took it from Hanna. Where did the other two bullets go? Anyone who is rooting for Hanna is surely hoping that they didn’t end up inside Wilden`s body.
Full House The Marin family is definitely taking the central role in this episode. After being absent for what seemed like years, Hanna`s father is back at the family house, yelling at Hanna and Ashley, trying to figure out what is happening and sipping adult beverages in-between all the confusion. After being accused of stealing the gun from his desk Hanna explains that she found it in her mother`s closet which is news to Mr. Marin. For the rest of the episode he questions Ashley and even though at first she pretends that she has no idea how the weapon ended up in the house, eventually she confesses more and more. After nearly burning down the house while cooking and losing her cool Ashley confesses that
• Wilden was threatening her and asking her for money which she did not have.
• She took the gun for protection but didn’t use it
• At some point she met Wilden who snatched the gun out of her hands and then she ran away.
This show has a way of making guilty people look innocent and vice versa and with A in town anybody can be framed. Still, when Ashley is arrested at the end of the episode and her fingerprints are found on the gun things do not look well. If someone is indeed framing Ashley he/she is doing a pretty good job.
Emily – the new Redcoat? So after being a flirt in the last week`s episode Emily is busy trying to keep Hanna`s mother out of jail. While A threatens to put both of Hanna`s parents behind bars if she speak, Emily reminds her that A didn’t say anything about doing something if one of the other girls speak. So, Emily makes a copy of the dashboard footage that Mona recovered from Wilden`s car in the season premiere and decides to hand it over to the police. The footage can seriously implicate Jenna and Shana, adding two more suspects to the case. The plan seems great but the way Emily carries it out is just plain stupid. She casually puts the DVD on detective Tanner`s desk and walks away leaving it out in the open. A, Redcoat, and a bunch of black hoodie hooligans are roaming around down looking for ways to destroy the girls` lives, so at this point Emily should know better.
Either way, she probably learns her lesson when detective Tanner pulls her out of work and takes her to the police station for questioning. She did find a DVD on her desk, but let`s just say that its contents don’t show Emily in the best light. In the video, there is a girl wearing a red coat and an Emily mask that had to be made by Hector. She is holding a sign that says “Guilty”. There is also a note attached to the DVD and if the video is not bad enough, the note is written in Emily`s handwriting. A has done many creepy and scary things on the show, but for some reason this gave me the chills. Sometimes l really think that every girl on the show has an evil twin that they don’t know about. The Emily lookalike is also seen at the last scene of the episode, breaking into a car and driving away.
Aria Drama I`ve heard some of the fans of the show complain how little A messed with Aria compared to the other girls (except the whole being stuffed in a box with a dead guy ordeal – although Wilden was responsible for that and his connection to A is still unknown). However, Aria is very good at finding drama herself. Despite the fact that one of her best friends just got arrested and A is threating all of them, Aria decides to help Connor, Mike`s friend with his English paper. Now while that is perfectly nice, Connor turns out to be a jerk that kisses Aria, gets rejected, and then spreads a rumor that they slept together. After getting yelled at by her brother poor Aria confronts Connor only to be called a slut. Worst of all, just at that moment Ezra decides to walk in and see what is happening. He later tries to comfort Aria, but she`s inconsolable so she yells at him to leave her alone. Ezra doesn’t seem to get the hint because he is later spotted peeping through the coffee house window where Aria is talking to Emily.
LIAR After being missing for what seemed like an entire season, Mike has been in the past few episodes, looking moody. After falsely accusing his sister of spending the night with his friend Mike finally stops being nasty and apologizes to Aria. He also promises Aria to make it up to her which I thought would come in a form of just being a nicer and not snapping at her as much as he had in the previous episode. However, at the end of the episode we see a guy smashing Connor`s car with a bat. The word “liar” is written on the side. Is this Mike`s way of punishing Connor for lying? Or, was Ezra the one who destroyed Conner`s car since he clearly isn`t over Aria just yet?
Adams Family Spencer is on bad terms with Aria and Emily when Mona tells them that Toby stole the RV and Spencer knew about it all along. To get them back on her side Spencer decides to go to the town of Ravenswood and talk to Mrs. Grunwald. Toby`s doesn’t seem convinced that they`ll get any answers, and he gets even more unhappy when they get to the town. If I had to describe Ravenswood in three words I would use these: anti-street sign, anti-color, and anti-social. All of the scenes in Ravenswood are lit up and shot in a very menacing and mysterious way that really remind of the “Adams Family” movies. No moving hand though. Mrs. Grunwald assures Spencer that she doesn’t know Allison or Vivian so Spencer leaves the beauty parlor empty handed. Later on she does drag Toby to Mrs. Grunwald`s home where a gloomy looking gardener is chopping off the roses off the rose bush. #Worst Gardener Ever
Where is Shana? Emily is unpleasantly surprised to find out that Shana not only has enrolled in Rosewood High, but is also taking Emily`s spot on the swim team now that Emily has an injury. However, no one is more surprised than Spencer who sees Shana at Ravenswood. When spooky music begins to blast over the speaker and all of the people in town begin to migrate in one direction Spencer decides to follow. She finds a crowd of people standing motionless, staring at a statue of an angel as if they are all hypnotized. Shana is among of them. When Spencer runs back to tell Toby what she had just scene, Shana jumps into Jenna`s car (although we don’t see who is behind the wheel) and drives away. Then, as if there wasn’t enough creepiness in the episode already, a bird drops straight from the sky and splatters all over the window of Spencer`s car. Yup, that happened.
“Under the Gun” definitely made me feel all kinds of emotions, mostly confusion. We haven’t even gotten a smudge closer to finding out who is A and Redcoat and now there is Mrs. Grunwald, Shana, Wilden`s true killer, and the Emily twin to worry about. I think it`s time to finally give the viewers some answers!
