Just got a notice from Panera Bread, yes everyone is trying to get the after holiday dollars and making new year resolutions, but the best ones are the ones that are giving things away and helping you lose weight – one of the top resolutions for people after feasting for two months is to lose those extra pounds. So with that said, I needed to share the six week challenge by Panera. Starts January 1 and goes weekly. This week is Power Source, Jan 1-7. I’m going to write about this weekly on my experience with the challenge and challenge readers to join me and let me know how you’re doing.
Seems pretty easy, most everyone could lose five pounds in six weeks, the difference is Panera has to gain something from this, after all it is their promotion. When you go to their site, not only are they challenging “MyPanera” friends, they are offering weekly prizes and this is what got my attention, a grand prize, luxury vacation to any Sandals Resort! I’m in, how about you?
What you need: Phone App, Motivator and MyPanera
1. Download the Lose It! App
a. Go to the challenge site here. It says it’s free to track your food and fitness with the Lose It app. You’ll need an iPhone or Android. What? Don’t have one of those smart phones? Sorry, it doesn’t seem to have an alternative. But go read the fine print and let me know if you find an alternative. Note: The app is by “FitNow” it is not a Panera app. It’s called, “Lose It! – Weight Loss Program and Calorie Counter.” I’m going to put it on my work phone since I carry it more than my personal phone. I’ll be making separate notes on my experience with this app as it is new to me and I’ll write about it in another post that I’ll link here.
2. Step 2 – Get Going , they say they’ll give a new “Motivator” each week to help make me stay on track. Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m guessing that motivator is not going to be my favorite chocolate croissant from the pastry section.
3. Step 3, Get Entered – Here’s where Panera wants you to sign up to be a free MyPanera member. I’m already a member so I’ll skip this section. The only thing to watch for is when I first signed up I got a free pastry from the Panera bakery. Hmm, don’t see how that helps but according to their site, “you can get weekly rewards, surprises and chances to win.”
Create a Lose It! Account if you don’t already have one – not the same as MyPanera account
Tip: After you follow the steps there’s an icon arrow that says, “Start Now” – Don’t be like me, I kept entering my MyPanera email and password, only to figure out that it is a totally different log in. If you don’t have a “Lose It!” Account, you’ll need to create one. Of course you’ll need to put in your weight in this section and in the phone app.
Weekly Power Source Motivators
Now as you look at the Panera Challenge Page it does show you a weekly Power Source – a box below the Steps to get started. These are the “motivators” mentioned earlier as prizes for each of the six weeks.
Stats – What’s Happening Now
Now here’s what’s funny, you can see the stats of “What’s Happening Now” – it shows how many calories burned, minutes exercised, number of members participating (9389 when I joined) and pounds lost (4.74 pounds lost). Um, I don’t know about you but it’s 4 pm Eastern time on New Year’s day, the challenge just started and I think the best time to weigh oneself is in the morning before I drink water and gain four pounds. So either some “members” have super metabolisms or something’s amuck. Just saying.
Keep Up and Keep In Touch
Keep reading here and on my foodie blog as I’ll be making notes, comments, reviews and tips of my experience as I take this six week challenge. Join me and let me know how you’re doing!
