One of the advantages of rental life is that you are not responsible for repairs. It is your landlord’s job to fix appliances covered in your lease, such as the refrigerator. Unfortunately, landlords can get lazy sometimes or just be irresponsible. If your fridge is not cooling properly, these sample complaint letters might help you.
If possible, type the letter. It is best to use business letter format. If you have forgotten, read “How to Write a Business Letter.” Also, try to send the letter via certified mail. This will demonstrate that you are very serious about the matter.
Sample Complaint Letter to Landlord About Fridge
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am the tenant for apartment #513b in the Diamond Turtle Complex. I signed my lease in September, about 3 months ago. Overall, I have been happy with the housing unit. I love the quiet atmosphere, and the unit is the perfect size for me.
However, I am very upset because my refrigerator does not seem to be cooling properly. My food seems to spoil very quickly. I have left you two messages regarding this matter. Since you have not called me back, this letter is my next attempt to get the refrigerator fixed. I am kindly asking you to please schedule a repair appointment no later than December 2nd.
I am on a strict budget and cannot afford to waste any food. I need the fridge to be repaired or replaced immediately. If you have it fixed soon, I will be more likely to renew my six month lease. Also, should you fix it promptly, I will agree to not contact the Better Business Bureau or leave any negative reviews online. I will also not share this on any social media website such as Facebook or Twitter.
Thank-you for attending to the matter immediately. Please contact me at anytime at (434)234-2323.
Sometimes you will need to be persistent to get your landlord to make repairs. If nothing is done, please contact your local Better Business Review.
