Yes, it’s that time of year again, it’s Christmas time for millions in America and billions around the world. ‘Tis the season for giving to loved ones and not-so loved ones, thinking of those no one thinks of, sharing with those that others have abandoned. This in essence is the spirit of Christmas. This is the spirit that the Left, Liberals, Atheists, Progressives, Secularists, are bent on stifling. They did it from schools under the umbrella of tolerance for other religions but nonetheless showed vicious intolerance for Christ in Christmas; renamed Christmas Tree, removed Jesus from the crib, banned Christmas Carols, stayed horrified with the display of Nativity scene! They got scared, those carols and nativity scenes were going to cloud their evolved sense of existence. But none of them brave enough to say they were doing it only to Christmas! Somehow, the devout and believers still exhibited calm, showed tolerance, and continued to enjoy their sense of peace. Only if the Three Wise Men had stopped and sprinkled some niceness on the Christmas Grinches! Maybe Dr Seuss got it right: Grinch’s head wasn’t screwed on just right or that his shoes might have been too tight; the Grinch hated Christmas because his heart was too small.
Liberal Media is at last acknowledging that Christmas or its spirit, just won’t stop hovering and fluttering. The Atlantic reluctantly noted in its article “Christmas Is Kicking Ass in the War on Christmas: Despite minor setbacks, the holiday that marks the birth of Christ is vanquishing its foes in an unparalleled rout.” Says Conor Friedersdorf, “While the secularization of Christmas is a real phenomenon, and understandably upsets some Christians, it is a function not of opposition to Christmas, but of the secularization of America, a process explained not by any enemy exterior to religion, but by millions of people independently deciding that organized religion isn’t compelling to them. In fact, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, millions who attend religious services on no other day of the year will fill church pews, even as millions more sit at home watching movies like It’s a Wonderful Life that spread the religiously infused Christmas spirit to a nationwide audience. Christmas is the day when the cultural strength of Christianity in America is at its apex.”
So, forget Happy Holidays, that greeting without character. It’s the commonality that makes it uninteresting. If not for Christmas celebrations at this time, those holidays, happy or not, wouldn’t be here anyway.(Australians and all below Equator have summer Christmas).
If it is Christmas, say Merry Christmas, if it is Diwali, say Happy Diwali, if it is Eid, say Eid Mubarak, if it is Hannukah, say Happy Hanukkah!
No other entity would respond to a wrong name, except Christmas, and that precisely is the spirit of Christmas! Happy Holidays? Huh? What’s that? For the lucky, holidays are there throughout the year; their life is a holiday! The entire country is going into spasms of Christmas shopping and baking and drinking and being merry, and people are reluctant to say Merry Christmas? Stores and Malls are humming with Christmas songs and they refuse to say Merry Christmas to their customers? Santa Claus, the magical character for some while a fictional one for the spoilers is there, promising toys for the kids and goodies for everyone; now he is under fire as well. Well so long, party-poopers, no toys for you this Christmas! In the public square, they’re trying hard to whistle and hum Happy Holidays; no offense, but get your own tune. Give an additional gift this Christmas this season; Say Merry Christmas and send Happy Holidays to the moon! Merry Christmas Everyone!
