March 26 th was a big day for ABC Family viewers and the Pretty Little Liars fandom. Still reeling from the explosive season 3 finale of PLL that aired last week, fans were shocked by two major updates on the ABC Family website today. Twitter and Tumblr went into a frenzy after the news was released.
Season 5 Of Pretty Little Liars Ordered.
Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding), the recently dumped boyfriend of Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) dropped a line during the season 3 finale that caused a whirlwind of rumors regarding the fate of the PLL series. During a conversation regarding their break-up Ezra mentioned to Aria that she would be graduating in six months. This tiny comment sent the internet buzzing, and speculating whether Season 4 would be the final season since the girls will be graduating and possibly leaving Rosewood. Isn’t that how pretty much every teen drama series ends, graduation? Fans were also concerned that now that “Red Coat” has been revealed there wasn’t too much left to be shown of the story-line. It also isn’t a good sign that PLL’s sister series The Lying Game still hasn’t been renewed. However, ABC Family put all rumors of Season 4 being the final season to rest today when they revealed that Season 5 has been ordered by the network.
ABC Family also released a promo for a new teen drama that will be premiering in October, called Ravenswood. Sounds an awful lot like Rosewood, the home of the liars, right? Well, it should! Ravenswood is a spin-off of fan-favorite Pretty Little Liars, and was created and written by none other than PLL geniuses, Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick, and Joseph Dougherty. Marlene King teased her devoted 172,000 followers on Twitter earlier today asking them if they were ready for a “huge announcement.” After the promo was released her followers went crazy, and #ravenswood was trending world-wide. That’s a pretty impressive accomplishment for a show that has not even been filmed yet. She also tweeted, “We can’t tell you who’s in it yet. Like Rosewood, Ravenswood has dark secrets.”
Here is what ABC Family shared today on their official website regarding the new show. “Not far from Rosewood Pennsylvania, a deadly curse has plagued the citizens of a town called Ravenswood for generations. And the curse is about to strike again. Five strangers suddenly find themselves at the mercy of this fatal curse, and they must dig into the town’s mysterious and terrible history before it’s too late for all of them.”
ABC Family also released seven “clues” about the new series. The clues are actually extremely vague photographs that really don’t give away much. One of the photos is a picture of the town’s crest, a raven. Another is a ripped missing person sign, which of course is missing too much of the person’s face to identify who the character is. You can check out the clues and promo video for yourself at www.abcfamily.com/ravenswood.
