There are easy things you can do naturally to look and feel your best as we are approaching our forties and beyond. Besides taking care of your outside appearance, it is also important to take care of your body and mind.
Your eye makeup.
Too much eye makeup can actually make you look older. Load your lashes with volume mascara and some eye shadow and highlighter at the brow. Stay away from too much dark liner at the bottom lash line and heavy dark eye shadow at the lid as this will only emphasize puffy eyes and dark circles. Use a bit of beige or white glitter at the corners of the inside to your eyes to brighten them up.
Super thin eyebrows can actually age the look of your eyes as well as too bushy ones. Try growing them in if they are sparse and tweeze them with an arch extended past the outer circle of your iris to open and lift the eye. Super thin brows date you back to Pamela Anderson days and do not give a soft look to the face.
Too bushy eye brows can over take your eyes and make you look hard and tired. It is best to stick to a medium brow with a nice arch. Make sure to use highlighter at the brow bone to lift the face. You can also dab a bit of highlighter above the brow arch for a more lifted look.
Long straight hair past breast length with no layers draws your face down. If you can carry the length, make sure you cut some layers around the face near the cheeks and jawbone. Layering in the back is also more youthful as it gives more movement to the hair from behind.
One flat color that is very dark places you in an age tunnel. To brighten your face stay with warmer color tones and subtle highlights. Drab light brown, grey with blonde and brassy dull light red are sure to age you by 10 years or more. Think multi tones as they are best for hair coloring techniques. Short hair can age you as well, especially if you don’t have the bone structure to support it. If you must go short, go full and bouncy or brighten up with short bright streaks. Think Marilyn Monroe style for full and bouncy and check out Christina Aguilera’s new shorter blonde style as seen on the TV show The Voice.
Dark roots passed the nose area and too light ends below it are not appropriate for the elderly lady on long styles. The trend brought out by L’Oreal’s line of L’Oreal Wild Ombre is great for under 35, but just looks to trendy and draws light away from the eye line and skin for 40 and up. To get this look think less contrast and soft graduations of rich at the root, medium tone at the middle and soft light medium at the ends. Never go drastic from dark up top to light at bottom; it does nothing to for brightening the skin tone. You want to concentrate to bring light around the face.
Super straight hair just narrows you down if it is long- unless you have lots of layers for face framing .If you are a plus size large woman, straight hair can actually enhance you as it slims down your face , giving you a sleeker look from head to toe. Be aware of not going to long as it will hide your other assets such as eyes and lips where you want to bring more attention.
Your hands and nails:
Nothing screams age like fake long nails in real dark colors and overly thick tipped French manicures. This look is best left for night time drama looks if at all. For every day, keep nails on the shorter side and avoid dark colors if your skin is starting to creep on your hands. Natural shorter or mid length mails are ok. Clean looking french manicures or beige nudes are fresh youthful day looks. Using specific hand cream for ageing skin every day and night will soften and reduce sagging and age spots.
Your Facial Makeup:
Too much cover up and powder layered over foundation looks flat and dry. Try a medium to sheer foundation and then use mineral powder dusted only at the forehead, nose and chin. Leave cheeks alone as the dewiness from the foundation mixed with oils in your skin throughout the day will add a youthful glow. If you are severely oily go for the powder all over and make sure to use a liquid highlighter liquid to get the glow on the cheek. It’s best to see an expert for foundation color at a high end department store to select the right shade .
This one of the most telltale aging signs. It does not respond to moisture cream as well the face. The skin at the neck is thin so the only real option could be a neck lift. There are creams that claim to tighten and reduce lines. You will just have to try them out and see how they work for you. Temporary fixes to hide an aging neck are scarves. Scarves are great fast trick for older women when they are being photographed or on video to cover the neck..
The only advice here is to get the gym and exercise especially lifting weights. Cardio is good but not too much. Too much strenuous exercise actually y breaks down the body and can age you faster than anything. Keep hydrated and know that after intense exercise, recovery is a good thing as it helps the muscles grow and become strong. Overtraining depletes you of energy and makes you tired, which in turn ages you. Consult with a great trainer to keep it all in balance. Diet is also key. Eat a lot of raw veggies and lean quality proteins and avoid too much sugar which can age the skin.
It’s all about balance and how you approach it. Be grateful with what you have and accept aging gracefully. Have inner peace and don’t stress. That is worth more on your looks than a $200 bottle of skin cream.
