Spring Maintenance for your Home
Things to Do Around the House
Spring is a good time to keep your home in check. Preventative care is the first step in saving you money on more expensive problems in the long run. As the good weather approaches you will want to pay the following areas some attention.
After a long winter of cozy fireside lounging, make sure you clean out your fireplace. Sweep out old ashes and have a chimney sweep free your chimney from debris. Make sure your chimney cap is in place. Then you won’t have any worries when winter approaches next year.
Have your Septic Tank Pumped
You should consider having your septic tank pumped once every three years. For many, this time goes by fast and is an easy thing to forget to have done. However, for proper maintenance of your home, consider biting the bullet this year if it has been awhile since your last appointment.
Get your Furnace Serviced
It is very important to have your furnace serviced regularly, yet this is something that also easily falls by the wayside. Small repairs are not generally costly, yet if problems go a long time without being fixed, extensive and costly maintenance is sure to follow. Keeping your furnace functioning at peak is also an important safety concern for your family.
Check Fire Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors for Peak Function
Over time, it is not uncommon for carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms to fall into disrepair. Many go low on batteries or simply expire. It is important to always stay on top of the maintenance of this important feature in your home. Of course, keeping your family safe in your house tops the checklist of homeownership responsibilities, but additional to ensuring a safe environment, having your detectors working and in order helps with the sale of your house if you ever decide to put it on the market.
Clear your Dryer Vents
Another fire safety hazard is dryer vents. As Spring approaches, check your dryer vents to make sure they are clear of build-up.
Change your Filters
Make sure you regularly change the filters in your ductwork system. This will ensure that your heating system and air conditioning system is always working optimally. It also is important again for the health of your family in your home.
Clean the Gutters
As Spring approaches, remember to check your gutters. You will want to remove any obstructions that have built-up over the winter and fall months. Weather you do this yourself or hire a professional, you will be happy to know things are in working order as good weather approaches.
