Music cheers people up; that is an undoubted fact. There is a trick though. You must fight the urge to listen to music that mirrors how you are feeling, because it will keep you feeling that way. Instead you have to focus on music that is happy. Check out this list of the songs that should be on your good mood playlist.
#1 Pocket Full of Sunshine: Natasha Beddingfield
This is a song that may irritate some at first but by the end you are singing along it is inevitable. It is very peppy and upbeat. This artist has many songs that will get you feeling positive so don’t be shocked if she pops up again on this list.
#2 My Girl: The Temptations
These guys have sweet melody and this song is a classic. Many girls will remember their dads singing it to them and some guys may have even sung it to their girls. Its goofy but also holds the possibility of having someone special to sing this too. Even if you don’t want to think about that, this song makes you smile.
#3 Hey Ya: Outkast
This song will remind many of us of the awkward middle school dances of our youth. It is catchy and brought about the cultural icon in the line: Shake it like a Polaroid picture.
#4 Gives You Hell: All-American Rejects
This website recommends a different song from this band, but I think that this song is better. It is a way of letting those emotions that are bogging you down go. Often it is people that cause us to be unhappy and singing along to this a great of saying forget you to those people.
#5 Raise Your Glass: P!nk
We all feel like outsiders sometimes and this song is great about helping you feel like you aren’t alone in being different. It also gives a healthy dose of ‘who cares if you are different?’ P!nk is known for her girl power songs. This one is a boost to the self confidence for everyone.
#6 Drops of Jupiter: Train
Many of the songs on this list are super high energy, (all except 2 so far) and that is because high energy songs are normally pretty happy, but this one is a bit more relaxed. It will still put you a in a cheerful state of mind because it is rather whimsical, and who doesn’t love his voice, he like Beddingfield and P!nk may appear again.
#7 I Want You Back: Jackson 5
The harmonies are fabulous and it clearly is doing something right when it has been covered by so many people including the cast of Victorious and Glee as well as Colbie Caillat. It is the very top of some people’s list so it should definitely be on yours.
#8 Walking on Sunshine: Katrina & the Waves
The title alone sounds like sugar and rainbows. It is impossible not to crack a smile at least once during the song.
#9 Unwritten: Natasha Beddingfield
Need a feeling of hope? This is probably the song for you. It will help you feeling like the future is limitless. It has been featured in films and TV, most notably in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
#10 Every Time We Touch: Cascada
This song is probably the highest energy on on this list. You will likely feel the urge to jump up and down when you hear it, because that is pretty much the only way to dance to it.
#11 Driveby: Train
Promising to be there for someone else can help you feel like those in your support system are even more there for you. Its high energy is great and the lyrics are pretty bizarre at points. Chances are you will end up laughing at them at some point.
#12 Promiscuous: Nelly Furtado
This song is going to make you feel sexy and fabulous even if you are wearing sweats and a tshirt. It is fantastic.
#13 So What: P!nk
Ready to say screw you to the problems? This is your song. It is basically all about how amazing you are, regardless of any other issues in your life. Which is possibly the most reassuring message to hear when you need to be happier.
What makes this list unique is that is crosses into multiple genres and time periods. What is the most important though is that I dare you to listen to all the songs on this list and not be grinning.
