In the town of Snellville, Georgia where the whole community supports our South Gwinnett Comets Football team comes together. Every year for our first game of the school takes part in a prep rally doing our 6th period classes. All the students would gather together in the stadium bleachers to enjoy an amazing show. The band would start off on the field first with the cheerleaders and the dance team. Our school Principal Mr. Clayton Hunter would get dressed up with the marching band and perform a routine for the school. He would be on the front line with three other students and they would dance and get down to the bands songs they play. Then the Jr ROTC/ Color Guard would come out and do their performance. After we meet the entertainers, the announcer would call out each football player of tonight’s game and the crowd would go crazy for them. The players’ then give there shouts out and the bell would ring for us to go home and get ready for the football game that starts at 7:30pm.
Around 6:30 across the street from the stadium we would tail gate with face painting and good food. You’re also able to buy towels and t-shirts. The whole community comes out to see the Comets make their first win of the season and normally we always do win that first game.
When homecoming comes around we have another prep rally that consists of a major parade. All the clubs of the schools participate in the parade. I enjoy the parades the most because you have the band all the way at the end of the stadium in the bleachers playing the music while the school would rent luxury convertible cars and the club students would be in those vehicles or marching with their signs and celebrating their success they contributed to the school. The parade would start at the end of Hwy 78 and would end on the football field once all the students and club sponsors are circled around the field the football team and cheerleaders would them come out and be announced once again.
Every student and parent attends the homecoming game. We have different radio stations there at the game and during half time there’s a show performed and you can go to the radio station booths and play games and win t-shirts and other cool gifts.
South Gwinnett loves to have fun for their football games. The Comets football team is the head of the school and is greatly supported. Even when it’s smaller games or away games with rival teams, the cheerleaders would host a mini show for each lunch session and we have a mini celebration to hype up and get the football players ready for a good game that night.
