The Swan Levine House is a unique bed-and-breakfast inn that will fulfill your taste for romance, art and history. Built in 1867 by John and Catherine Fahey, the house was sold in the late 1870s to William Campbell, a well-known merchant in Grass Valley. After a fire incident, Campbell remodeled the house in the style of the late Victorian period. Upon his death, the house was attained by his brothers, John Jones and Carl, both doctors. They decided to convert the Queen-style home into a hospital.
In 1975 the Swan Levine House was sold to innkeepers and lovely hosts Howard Levine and Margaret Warner Swan. The owners transformed this beautiful Victorian home into a bed-and-breakfast establishment. Howard and Margaret have applied their education and passion for art to decorate this charming house. As you walk through the inn you will encounter a varied collection of artwork, books and antiques. When you step outside, you will come across the old Carriage House building, which today is a fully equipped printmaking studio made available to anyone interested in renting the space.
The Swan Levine House offers four delightful guest rooms, each individually named, furnished and decorated. The Suite has a queen bed plus a separate sitting room with a fireplace, sofa, antique chairs and views of the historic Grass Valley town. The Surgery Room has a king-size bed that can be turned into two twin beds. This enchanting room is filled with plants and colorful, attention-grabbing artwork. The Green Room is actually a two-room suite with a queen canopy, a hideaway bed and a sitting room. This room is perfect for couples who are visiting with children. The Apartment provides the most privacy thanks to its own secluded entrance. The Apartment can accommodate four people and is furnished with a queen-size bed, a trundle bed that can be converted into a queen or two twin beds, a cute kitchen, refrigerator, microwave and television. All rooms have private baths with claw foot tub-shower combinations.
In the morning you can enjoy a scrumptious full breakfast in the dining room. Breakfast items include scrambled eggs, fruit, muffins and banana bread. An assortment of teas, juices and coffee helps complete your breakfast.
