Sweat USA and VITAL Sports & Entertainment have brought the best of the best to the Miami Beach Convention Center this weekend to pump you up. Fitness heavyweights and all knowing guru’s Jillian Michaels, Shaun T. (Insanity) and Tony Horton (P90X) have set the stage for everyone in South Florida to become a ‘better you.’ The idea behind SweatUSA is a simple one to bring all of the industries top vendors and cutting edge classes under one roof. Not only can you spend a session with Jillian, Shaun and Tony sweating last night’s cheesecake off but you can cruise the vendors for samples, the latest information in nutrition, various other class opportunities, and get a well deserved massage at the same time.
There was truly something here for everyone. Other headliners included Viceca Jensen (Piloxing – a mixture of pilates and boxing that burns fat and sculpts muscle), Jennifer Nicole Lee (JNL Fusion – helps you lose weight, burn fat, and build lean muscle), Heidy Torres (Zumba – an over-the-top high energy class with a distinct and infectious Latin flavor), Leandro Carvalho (Brazilian Butt Lift – helps to slim the thighs, lift the butt and reduce hips), plus a series of Mixed Martial Arts classes throughout the weekend, conducted by coveted MMA trainers and UFC fighters. But there was more including Flywheel Cycling, Crossfit, Fly Wheel, Ballet Fitness, Surfset and boot camps. This by the way looked just as daunting in person as they do on TV. Pilates and Yoga sessions were held in the tranquil setting of The Mondrian South Beach hotel, where notable instructors invited participants to partake in classes held by the pool and overlooking the bay. That my friend is what we call exercising Miami Beach style.
The convention center was a cornucopia of over 100 nutrition, fitness and wellness vendors that ranged from the latest in exercise apparel, protein supplements, vitamins and natural cooking and eating. Reebok took center floor with their new footwear technology showcasing cutting edge styles designed for comfort and wear.
I can not tell a lie; Jillian Michaels Bodyshred class was what brought me out of my nice cool home on this 95 degree (autumn?) day. To see her in action was a lot of fun. Instructing the floor which was packed with her faithful she jumped into the middle of punches and kicks for one-on-one training and instruction. I’m happy to say no one left crying (including myself) and her motivational yelling was resigned to barking instructional orders from the stage. Shaun T. and Tony Horton made Sunday the men’s day. Their headlining classes began bright and early at 9:00 AM.
Should you be lucky enough to have SweatUSA come to your town I have a couple of recommendations for you. Considering what I witnessed after Jillian’s first class bring a bottle of water, a towel, and if you’re going to take a picture of yourself at the event do it before you jump in with both feet. After all they don’t call it SweatUSA for nothing. For more information on this event and future dates please visit:
