When my daughter got involved in softball, I was told that she needed a baseball glove. Not knowing a thing about buying baseball gloves, I only knew that she needed one to fit her hand. So off I went in search for one. None of our local smaller stores had any for younger kids. I went to Walmart, but being that time of year, they were sold out of this smaller size for T-ball. Finally, I was able to find this set called Franklin 9.5″ Baseball Glove with Soft-Strike Baseball at Target. Once on the softball field, I saw most of the girls had the same type, style, and color except for the extremely lucky two girls who had found theirs in different shades of pink! The rest of us had to put the names on the inside tag as they all looked alike.
First off, you need to find the right handed one for your child. In our area, there were no left-handed gloves to be found, so look early if your child is left handed before they are sold out. The next thing to ensure is the right sizing. Since I knew nothing about the sizing of softball gloves, I asked where the T-ball gloves were located. There was only one option that I could find in my daughter’s size and that was the Franklin 9.5″ Baseball Glove with Soft-Strike Baseball set.
This only came in one color, a light brown. It feels cool to the touch, slick laminated cowhide with deer touch palm lining, and fur at the top that touches the back of the hand. Leather lacing and the Franklin brand logo on front and back of the glove. There is no need to break in this glove as you do with others. It is soft enough to use from the first day with no issues. It works efficiently, as evidenced by all the balls my daughter caught over the summer!! As with other gloves, the fingers of the glove are separated but laced together. Gray piping outlines each finger and it also has a deep yellow stitching. “Hand formed pocket” and “RTP Ready To Play” are written on the palm of the glove.
The unisex color makes this glove called Franklin 9.5″ Baseball Glove great for boys and girls. Sure, all the girls oohed and aahed over the pink gloves, but still, these work just as well! My daughter had no trouble putting the glove on or taking it off. If we had went with her choice of glove, she would have had the black men’s glove about 10 sizes too big for her! The tag inside is the perfect place for the child’s name, so the glove does not get lost. It looks new after a hard long summer playing lots of softball. It has been thrown in the dirt, mud, sand, water and looks brand new to this day! You can’t even tell it has been used. It does not stain, and even after being wet (when they played after it rained and the ground was soggy), it is unchanged.
It smells like leather, but not a strong scent. It is comfortable for my daughter and she has never once complained about wearing it. Actually it is the opposite. Usually the coaches are telling her it is time to take it off! It is padded inside to cushion from the balls hitting the glove, so my daughter never hurt her hand while playing softball. We have been very happy with this $12.99 purchase, and it even came with a ball. The ball is soft and has the Franklin logo on it. It came in a net tied to the glove.
