The end of the year not only brings Thanksgiving, Christmas, parties, family reunions, and delicious food, it brings brilliant films that are frontrunners for the upcoming Oscar season.
Predictions are made as to what will get Best Picture and Best Director and whom will get Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress.
I am a huge fan of Oscar season. But I’m also a huge fan of quality films – films that might not make the Oscar season, films that will touch my heart and soul. While last year brought exciting and highly-anticipated films like Les Miserables to the big screen, it truly was a whirlwind rat race to see who took home the coveted prizes. This year, it’s truly about the quality of the films and the stories told and the characters portrayed than it is about the man of gold.
Here are fifteen films that are my Most-Anticipated 2013 End-of-Year Movie Releases (and from what I’ve heard, the Most-Anticipated 2013 End-of-Year Movie Releases) – films that are sure to win the Oscar, but also leave you thinking about them.
1)Captain Phillips – Tom Hanks has done no wrong in my book. He is an amazing, brilliant actor who takes on challenging roles – whether real or fictional (in this case – real), and draws us in deeply to his characters and their journeys.
2)The Fifth Estate – Benedict Cumberbatch is The Man right now. While it’s rare for this type of film to be considered for any kind of Oscar, Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance will make this possible.
3)12 Years A Slave – This film is at the top of everyone’s list. This film will be the MUST-SEE film not only of the Oscar season, but of the year! Every performance – from Chiwetel Ejiofor to Michael Fassbender to Brad Pitt – will be something to watch out for!
4)Kill Your Darlings – This is a movie that everyone is looking forward to! And it’s not just because of Daniel Radcliffe.
5)The Dallas Buyers Club – Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto’s performances will earn them major Oscar nominations! While everyone says that this is Matthew’s film, Jared Leto’s performance will steal the show!
6)The Book Thief – I just read an article the other day that The Book Thief is considered worthy of the Oscar season, and is getting rave reviews. People are loving that films about World War 2 are being told.
7)The Wolf Of Wall Street – Although I heard that this film may be pushed back to next year, this is, without a doubt, the Most-Anticipated 2013 End-of-Year Movie Release. Everyone wants this to be the film that finally gets Leonard DiCaprio the Oscar. And I’ve heard that people believe that Matthew McConaughey will take home an Oscar, too.
8)Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom – It will be a tight race between Forest Whitaker for Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf Of Wall Street (if this film is released this year), and Idris Elba for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. And let’s not rule out Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. But this bio film is also on the top of everyone’s list. And with the brilliant, and infectious, film score used in the trailer, this is sure to be a winner!
9)Inside Llewyn Davis – A rare Indie film that is already another film on top of everyone’s list, and already getting Oscar buzz. And it’s sure to bring back the style of music used in this film.
10)Saving Mr. Banks – Die Hard Mary Poppins fans can’t wait to see this film! Already there’s talk of Oscar for Emma Thompson. While people are a little upset with Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney, this is a film that is on the top of every Die Hard Mary Poppins fan’s list! You should read the message boards regarding this film on imdb.com!
11)American Hustle – David O’ Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper were the Darlings of Hollywood last year what with Silver Linings Playbook. Throw in Amy Adams and Christian Bale, and this is a movie that will be this year’s Darling.
12)Her – People couldn’t wait to see Joaquin Phoenix is last year’s The Master. This year, they will be lining up to see Joaquin in Her. And even though Scalett Johansson is the voice of Her, people will be lining up to hear her after her sexy success in Don Jon.
13)The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty – This is the film that everyone’s talking about at work! All my co-workers want to see this! It just got standing, and clapping, ovations at the premiere!
14)Out Of The Furnace – Another Christian Bale film. Another He’s The Man!
15)August: Osage County – People who have seen the stage play can’t wait to see this film – especially since it was written by the same man who wrote Killer Joe! People are already talking about Meryl Streep taking home another Oscar! And this film will really show off Abigail Breslin’s acting chops as a young adult!
