On Sunday August 25, 2013, the current giants of golf met on the Barclays Liberty National golf course for the final round of the Barclays golf tournament, which is part of the playoffs of the FedEx Cup.
Some of the biggest athletes in golf. Thousands of fans flocked to Liberty National Golf center near the Liberty State park to watch these superstars play. It was also a patriotic moment since they played near the Statue of Liberty.
One of the biggest stars was Phil Mickelson. Phil Mickelson, who was falling behind in the first three rounds of the Barclays, suddenly became number on the leader board. When of his best moves was a shot from behind the pond and the willow tree. He could barely see the green, but his ball was shot right on to the green.
The next athlete is the biggest golf star in the world. He helped golf grab media attention. He may have some rough spots recently, but he played well in the tournament. You guessed it. He’s Tiger Woods. First when we followed Phil Mickelson for some holes, we noticed that he was playing much better relative to the past three rounds. He was hitting more birdies in the final round and I saw his rank in the tournament go as high as second place, but it dropped after the 16th hole. His thirteenth hole shot was incredible. From the start his drive went too far to the left , which was behind a willow tree. This tree not only blocked the view of the green, but also the pond. It took a while for him to analyze the situation, but when he hit the ball, I saw it land on the green. It was remarkable.
The next superstar who was at the Barclays is the number one golfer in the world, Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods, who’s the number one golfer played well. It was a beautiful day at Liberty National Golf center. I went around hole 16 and near hole 5. On my left, Tiger woods had just made a nice long drive at hole 5. On my right, Phil Mickelson had made a beautiful chip to the green. Simultaneously, I watched both all-star golf players putt. I have to say that Tiger made a better putt that time. Phil went for the put, but overshot the hole.
Finally, at the eighteen holes, all the players started to bring home their best. Though not all completed their goal of beating Adam Scott. Tiger came close with his drive that overshot the green and the putt that was only a centimeter away from the hole. Had Tiger birdied the eighteenth hole, he would have tied with Adam Scott. Sadly, August 25, 2013 was not his lucky day. He pared the eighteenth hole. Therefore, it gave Adam Scott the Barclays Cup of 2013.
After the tournament ended with the closing ceremony, I walked home more content with the players that I watched. The first time that I watched golf was a few years ago at the Shop Rite Classic. As a total newbie, I just followed one group and watched them play. However, that was a terrible strategy. At the Barclays, there are so many groups to choose. I still followed Phil Mickelson for too long, which prevented me from watching the rising star, Adam Scott. The Barclays overall was an exciting tournament filled with famous golfers who you have only dreamed of watching them play. This experience has not only broadened my knowledge of game , but the individual players. I will be more watching Adam Scott more closely as he advances to the Deutsche Games in Boston, Massachusetts.
