Planning a unique and memorable Valentine’s Day date can be a challenge in small-town Iowa, but there are several local options that go beyond a card and chocolates.
Spend a romantic night overlooking the river. The Marina Inn in South Sioux City (www.marina-inn.com) is offering their Sealed With A Kiss package for the month of February. For $179 you receive a deluxe guest room for one night, a $50 gift certificate to Kahill’s, the on-site restaurant, champagne and chocolates in your room, breakfast, and complimentary Starbucks in the morning!
Enjoy a charming dinner. My personal favorite local restaurant for a romantic dinner is Luciano’s (http://www.italiandiningsiouxcity.com). The decor is beautiful and makes this a date-worthy destination by itself. The Italian menu is complemented by an extensive wine list and the bar serves the best martinis in town. The downtown location is also a quick stroll to several other attractions.
Treat your Valentine to a couple’s massage. What better way to spend your date than relaxing and being pampered together. Massage and Body (http://www.massageandbody.com) offers couple’s massages, or buy your date a gift card to be pampered on their own. A pedicure together can also be a relaxing and fun treat!
Stay in and avoid the crowds. Maybe you and your date prefer to avoid the crowded restaurants and stay home. There are countless take-out and delivery options for dinner, but my favorite is Diamond Thai (https://www.facebook.com/dtcfood). They have their menu posted online so you can browse ahead of time and call in your order to pick up. Their menu offers “safe” choices, and authentic choices for the more adventurous. This is also a great restaurant for vegetarian options.
There are several good places to choose a bottle of wine for your dinner at home. Most of the local Hy-Vee stores have a fairly extensive wine offering, but if you are unsure of what to buy or just want to try something new, check out Wine Styles in Lakeport Commons (http://www.winestyles.com). Their staff is very friendly and knowledgable and can help you select something unique to compliment your dinner. They also have a variety of wine themed accessories that make great gifts.
Venture Outdoors. The weather in Northwest Iowa isn’t always conducive to an outdoor Valentine celebration, but if you are adventurous and the temperature cooperates Sioux City has some fantastic views and trails. The riverfront trail is a favorite for romantic strolls with a view of the Missouri river and is a beautiful location day or night.
Whatever local option you chose your Valentine’s Day is sure to be memorable.
