I live in El Dorado Hills, Ca. The elevation for this town is officially 764 ft. It doesn’t usually snow here but there have been times in the past where it snowed for a day making it fun for all who experience it. This year, 2013, we were lucky to get snow again starting on the night of December 6th and continuing to the next day.
On Monday, the second of December, I was reading the forecast on the weather channel’s website. I noticed something different for Saturday’s image. It was a symbol of a snowflake, something I practically never see for El Dorado Hills’ forecast. I clicked on it to learn more and found out that it meant snow was in the forecast! I was so excited that I had to tell someone right away so I ended up telling my dad to go on his computer and look at the forecast. He was surprised as well and very happy.
The week went by pretty fast. I was looking forward to Saturday so much that I could really care less what was happening beforehand. I made sure to watch the local news every night on TV to reassure myself that snow was still indeed in the forecast. That’s when I realized the harsh reality that in order for it to snow it had to be really cold here. And it sure was. Living in Northern California, especially this area, you get used to the hot and warm weather. I’ve never lived in an area that had these low of temperatures so I was freezing. I almost started to wish it would get warmer but knew it did have to be super cold for the snow to come so I just packed on the jackets and wore two pairs of pants!
Friday came and the news started talking about how the snow would be coming early that night. I was so happy because it felt like it took forever to come. It was just a little bit making me a little worried there wouldn’t be that much snow. Bed time came, and I had a rough night. I kept waking up to check outside the window to make sure it was snowing. When morning finally came I couldn’t wait any longer and got dressed as warmly as I could and headed outside.
Well that didn’t last long. It was super cold! I had to wait at least 2 hours to go outside and play in the snow. The snow was a little wet by then as temperatures were rising again but it was amazing. I hadn’t seen snow in a couple of years and now the snow came to me! I made a snowman and threw snowballs in the air for my dogs to play with. I loved it and am glad it happened. I even took some pictures of the snow, and of my snowman of course, to preserve the fun memories I made. Check out my pictures attached to this article to see what a wonderful time I had the day it snowed in El Dorado Hills.
