Once upon a time, man only dreamt about flying. We live in an age of such technological and scientific wonder, that we forget that there was a time before it, when what we take for granted were but the dreams and visions of men and women just like us.
Dreams. The very word seems magical. Some people dream of flying high up in the skies, some prefer the land, while others crave adventure on the seas. Some dreams are openly announced, while others are deep secrets. Some are grand and illustrious, while others can be silly, and even downright absurd! In retrospect though, we must realise that dreams are the paths to progress, for ourselves, and the world around us.
The dark worry now is that we have reached an impasse. In today’s materialistic world, have we shelved our dreams, lost them to the mundane, and become little better than robots? The distinction desperately needs to be made, between living and being alive, especially when we begin to measure happiness on a monetary scale. We have our excuses. There never is enough money for that dream trip to Hawaii, never enough time to pen down that novel. The dreams worth fighting for never seem easy, but can we, in all honesty, expect them to be? What is the point of dreaming then, if everything is as easy as cake?
Remember, where there is a will, there is a way, and even cake requires baking. Life is too short to procrastinate, too precious to waste.
Our lives have become ‘textbook’; terribly predictable, and utterly boring. A certain format is followed without ever questioning whether it is what we really want. Yet our greatest gift is our intellect, and we must ponder this situation…and not stop there. Live with a vision. Do with a passion. Look back one day, and say, “Man, that was one amazing ride!”.
Perhaps if we are determined enough, brave enough to follow our dreams, that bravery could be translated into something greater. Standing up for yourself, and your aspirations could only be the first step to standing up for others; against poverty, racism, corruption…
Sometimes, if not most times, the going is difficult. The skies are cloudy, the path is steep and the seas are stormy. Sometimes, we end up trying so hard, working towards a dream so breathtakingly glorious that it near kills us when it just doesn’t happen as we envisioned it. True, in attempting perfection, things are constantly the best they can be, but it is the very fact that we are imperfect that makes us human, and the very fact that we are human, that makes life beautiful. So don’t miss out on the experiences you can have by agonising over those you can’t. Take the risk. Jump far. Jump deep. Soak in the adrenaline.
