There are some days that we just don’t feel beautiful. Sometimes its because we feel bloated. At other times we are having a bad hair or skin days. Often in my case, there is nothing wrong at all, I just don’t feel attractive. I’ve found there are some makeup looks I can do and feel pretty, even when I don’t.
The Classic 40’s Look
It is a look that many people rock and it can make you feel so confident and sexy. The most important thing about this look is the fire engine red lipstick. The lips are bold and strong, and will help you feel the same. To achieve it, you’ll need a bright red lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, blush, and foundation. Use the foundation like you normally would. The ideal foundation will have an illuminator in it already, but if not use an illuminator with it. Next you will want to use the blush. The blush should be light, and a pink tone for lighter skin tones. For darker skin tones a slightly more lavender tone would most likely be more appropriate. Apply the blush lightly to the apples of your cheek (the highest point of your cheek). Use the mascara next. With the eyeliner you have some choices on how to apply it. You will definitely want to use it on your waterline (this is the inner part of your lower lid), but if and how you use it on your upper lid gives you some freedom. For your water line start on the outer edge and go 3/4 of the way along your lid. This will help your eyes appear larger. With the upper lid you can do a similar effect, or another choice is doing a wing tip. A wing tip is simply curling the edge of the line upward on the outer part of the eyeliner on your upper lid.
Why It Makes You Feel Great
This look will make you feel super confident every time, but the question is why? For starters, some of very well known icons of beauty and talent have made this look famous including, but certainly not limited to Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Christina Aguilara, and Katy Perry. Imitation of beauty is a good way to feel beautiful, however this makeup is great because even if you copy the look if will still be all about you, because this look gives an individual flavor for every single person. It is also a fairly natural look, in comparison to the full spectrum. That means it is helping show off your natural beauty- and your natural ability to rock out to some red lipstick!
The Best Products
The best techniques in the world are useless without good products. I’ve already explained how to use them, but what about the tools. Here are some my favorite products that are necessary to accomplish this look.
Foundation: Don’t change what you’d normally use just because I say so, but if you aren’t happy with your current product, here is my suggestion. I prefer loose powder mineral makeup. A beauty secret though, mineral makeup is generally the same from product to product, so find a brand that has a good match to your skin tone and don’t worry about what brand it is. Essentially, don’t be afraid to be cheap.
Blush: I’ve been blessed with a natural blush so I rarely use it. I do use bronzer though, and while it isn’t used for this makeup, I use Almay bronzer, and generally I’ve found that if a company makes one quality skin product, the others are generally solid as well.
Mascara: I am a fanatic of Covergirl mascara. Depending on what you need out of a mascara will depend on what kind you will want. I need volume and length and I love traditional lashblast, but I prefer mine waterproof. If you have issues with clumping, lashblast may not be the best choice. They do have a professionals line that is great for conquering the clump.
Eyeliner: This is another type of product that if you are happy with what you are using, don’t switch, but if you want to make a swap, here’s some thoughts. I love MAC fluidline (Nyx is great and I believe they have a comparable product as well). It isn’t as easy to apply as a crayon liner (in a rush covergirl has a good crayon liner) but I love the results Mac Fluidline. You use it with a small brush.
Lipstick: This is the most important product for this look. In a lipstick I like a lot of saturation, and for it to have a good consistency. I like the Queen Collection from Covergirl for saturation, but I’m still looking for the best consistency.
