Tim stood with some of his friends talking about his family, and he knew deep down that he would probably regret what he said. His family was an odd bunch with odd nicknames that had been given to them because of the stupid things that they had done. Tim smiled when he thought about his nickname, The Monk and one of his aunts had given him that nickname when he was in his twenties. Everybody in the family thought he was very religious and was saving himself for his marriage which in turned explained his nickname “The Monk”.
His father and mother were very serious people that had a dry sense of humor that no one could understand. When, he was told that their nickname, it was one thing he just couldn’t understand. His dad was called the Jokester and his mother’s nickname was the Riddler. His parents never told either a joke or a riddle, but his uncles had nicknamed his parents those names because of the fact. His parents were proud of their nicknames and told all of their friends the nickname which made the friends laugh from the knowledge of the private joke.
His one sister was called Tia, but her nickname was the Squirrel. He always told his sister it was because she looked like a squirrel. Secretly, her family had given her that nickname because of the way she acted. In one day, she had crashed over two chairs which resulted in a broken arm, put her hand through a window which resulted in ten stitches and the final straw was falling up the stairs which didn’t result in any medical problems. It simply gave the family a good laugh when they witnessed it.
His brother was called Lee, but his nickname was the Skunk. He thought it was because his hair was changing from black to white which gave him the look of a skunk. Tim wanted to tell his older brother that he was always letting little poofers that made people tear up. People wouldn’t walk behind him because of that reason which would be made worse because he wouldn’t say that he was sorry for letting the little poof. He would just stand there and grin at the person like he was sharing a private joke with them. Some of his poofers could actually evacuate a room which brought the nickname alive to anyone that had the pleasure of being in the room with him.
Tim always wondered if there was some secret reason that he didn’t know about his nickname. If there was some secret reason, he wasn’t aware of that reason which he liked very much. He wasn’t too sure if he wanted to know what the reason could be and he wondered if he did, would he get mad about the reason. He was starting to get dizzy from talking himself in a circle and confused on trying to figure out the reason. He was going to let it be one of life’s little mysteries.
