As “The Walking Dead” fans await the producers of the hit corpse riddled show to create the recently announced spin-off or companion show, the series title is definitely one important element people are eagerly wanting to hear. Like the big TV franchises of “CSI” or Crime Scene Investigation” or “Star Trek”, shows can be created and added to the ever growing family to fan adoration and big profit returns. An interesting example of this is the last “Star Trek” series, “Star Trek: Enterprise”. When it first premièred, and for two full seasons, Star Trek was no where to be found in the title. Subsequently, the iconic name brand was put back into the title. It’s a no brainer – a yummy one to be sure for Deaders – for the new Walking Dead show, dead will be used somewhere in the title, but just how will it be employed?
“The Dancing Dead” or “Dancing With The Dead”
“Dancing With The Stars”, the hit TV show on ABC, may be shutting out a very popular element of their audience. These are still people – in the most general sense of the word – but they just aren’t alive. The DWTS production team may want to include zombies in its next season. After all, if they’re good enough for Brad Pitt in his mega hit box office smash, “World War Z”, zombies may just entice more of the dance loving viewers to watch the long running hoofing talent competition. Of course, a zombie does have a tactical and physical advantage; they can go on dancing and dancing and dancing and dancing…. as long as they have some tasty morsel of flesh to feast upon. Yes, shambling is more what they’re capable of, but with the right training, who knows what shuffling talent could be discovered festering, like a pus filled boil, within the more coordinated corpses.
From “American Idol” and “American Dad” on FOX, to “American Horror Story” and “American Pickers” – putting the good old USA nationality at the forefront of a title is all the rage, and it seems to work wonders. If that takes off in a big way, they can go fully international and do “British Dead”, “Canadian Dead”, “Mexican Dead”, “Italian Dead”, French Dead”, “German Dead”, “Chinese Dead”- the potential and the deceased nationalities are simply endless. Maybe a singing contest could be an offshoot. Who will be crowned the new American Dead? Will they get a chance to take a bite out of Simon Cowell?
“Cooking With The Dead” or “The Cooking Dead” or “The Chomp”
ABC has “The Chew”, where a bunch of chefs and cooking experts hang out with big stars and everyday folk and chew the fat while they slice and dice up stuff to chew on. If there’s one thing zombies know how to do really well, it’s bite. “The Cooking Dead” or “The Chomp” could conjure up huge ratings and turn even zombie haters into zombie lovers – if only to see guests get bitten and ones successfully evade the big chomp. As for what the corpse cooks actually whip up in the kitchen, well I’d think those are recipes for only the truly brave among us. Rachael Ray, go make us some zombie cuisine!
