Short hair had quite a year in 2013, and the trend is roaring strong into the new year. Bobs and pixies have been championed in the most unexpected of places, up to and including iconic blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson. After a career spent sporting long locks, she shocked fans by first going short and then even going briefly brunette. Who would have ever guessed? And she is far from alone.
Yet, far from being a downgrade, these hairstyles have highlighted the style, grace and femininity of the women who dared to rock them. Below are some of the best short haircuts of the past year.
Jennifer Lawrence – Everyone’s best friend, the popular young actress surprised many when she cut off her long hair. Her new style is short and wavy, with the length being slightly longer in the front, somewhere between a pixie and a bob.
Pamela Anderson – When everyone’s favorite lifeguard cut her hair, it literally made headlines. She opted for a full blown classic pixie. The new cut highlights her delicate bone structure and makes the already youthful actress look years younger.
Halle Berry: Halle Berry has been championing the short and sweet pixie look for years now, but on her the cut still looks fresh and fabulous. That is not to say that she hasn’t tweaked the look over the years. Recently she let the front grow a bit longer, giving her sexy side swept bangs. Whether long or short, the actress always looks great.
Miley Cyrus : Artistic, edgy, and definitely controversial, Miley’s name has been on everybody’s lips this year. Her short and daring new haircut has definitely been one of the topics of conversation. Somewhat reminiscent of the cut P!nk has been sporting for a few years now, it is a few inches long on the top and shaved on the sides. Not everyone would be able to carry this look off, but on the young singer it looks fresh and funky. Fans should enjoy it while they can though, since Miley is already looking ahead to the next cut.
Michelle Williams: Her hair actually has actually been growing out from a pixie to a stylish bob, but she is still a longtime ambassador for the short haired and feminine. This delicate style suits her, and as a busy mom on the go it is undoubtedly also practical.
Ginnifer Goodwin: Playing Snow White hasn’t kept her from breaking tradition, with a sweet pixie cut that is fairytale pretty. With a new real-life engagement to Prince Charming (otherwise known as Josh Dallas), clearly she isn’t the only fan of this style.
Reese Witherspoon: A longer bob, this haircut is a nice compromise between short and fresh while still being long enough for an updo.
Emma Watson – From a pixie to a bob, she has run the short-haired gamut this year. Most famous for her role in the Harry Potter movies, in which she had to keep her hair long and frizzy, the dramatic haircuts were a clear indication that she is all grown up now.
