Fad diets have proven to lead to favorable weight loss, but not for a lifetime. In order to keep the weight off, such as in the baby food diet, the person will have to stay on that diet for the rest of their life. This diet says that an adult will have to eat at least eight jars of baby food every meal to equal to one adult meal. Fad diets are not something that most people are willing to live with forever. Therefore, the weight will creep back. Reaching a weight loss goal and keeping weight off is not going to happen with a fad diet. Do not get caught up in the unhealthy and harmful yo-yo syndrome of weight loss.
Some examples of a few fad diets are the salad diet, the fruit diet, Acai berry diet, and the HCG diet. There are many fad diet options on the market today. The problem is they are not life-changing diets.
Most fad diets sound appealing, such as the baby food diet. All the person has to do is select the jars and be on their way, no measuring or food preparation needs to be done. Busy people think this an attractive weight loss diet.
A person wanting to lose weight fast will latch onto an unhealthy plan without giving it a second thought. In this case, baby foods are prepared to give the child the nutrients they need. Baby food does not contain all the correct nutrients for an adult. Most fad diets will show a quick weight loss, but soon the body’s weight loss comes to a standstill, and the person gives up.
The person may become irritable, moody and depressed because they are not showing a continued weight loss. Most people know what foods to avoid and what foods they need to eat more. It is just instituting a healthy eating plan in their life and making it a lifestyle change, forever.
If the fad diet does not endorse a lifestyle change, a balanced diet every day from all food groups, not skipping meals during the day, eating two healthy snacks per day, an exercise plan and recommends a visit to their doctor, then it is not a healthy option.
The doctor needs to be consulted before starting on any diet. Ask him or her to accompany you on your weight loss journey. Ask your doctor to track your progress every month. Even a healthy weight loss plan works better when the person must report to another, especially the doctor.
Many dieters have their own opinions about a successful weight loss plan. I have been in the medical field for over 40 years. I have gleaned a lot of nutritional input from patients and dietitians. I have come to the opinion that a fad diet is not the healthy way to lose weight, for life. A successful weight loss comes with forever and sensible lifestyle changes.
