I remember the day I found out I was having my first baby. I couldn’t wait to go to the store and buy all those cute clothes, socks, blankets, and tiny diapers. I mean, what more do you need right? Well, it wasn’t long before advice starting pouring in from everywhere, and there were three suggested items that proved to be surprisingly essential. These items are as follows, listed in preferential order: A baby monitor that beeps if the baby stops moving, a bumbo seat, and a foam pad for the bathtub.
The Help Mommy Sleep Better Baby Monitor
One of my closest friends had a baby three months before my daughter was born. Like me, she is a worrier, especially when it comes to our children. Upon researching information on SIDS, she discovered the Angelcare baby monitor that slips under the crib mattress and detects movement. It is so sensitive that if the baby stops breathing an alarm will sound. I went right out and bought one. This little device brought me so much peace, that I can’t even begin to imagine those first few months without it.
The, How Did Babies Sit up Before, Bumbo Seat
For eight months I couldn’t wait until my baby shower. Visions of pink dresses, and hair bows danced in my head. The pink squishy baby seat was not among those visions. Is it a highchair, I asked? My aunt replies, “No silly it is a chair you put her in as soon as she can hold her head up”. But I thought you just held them all the time. I soon discovered that you can’t get anything done unless you put your baby down every now and then, oh and the baby really likes it when they can see you, therefore, you can actually unlatch baby from your arm once in a while. This makes the Bumbo Seat number two on my list. Caution: do not leave your baby unattended while using or put the chair off the ground.
The Foam Pad Miracle
Most of us don’t think of a foam pad that a baby can lay on in the bath tub as something miraculous, but I certainly do. My mom bought me one of these and assured me I would thank her later. Don’t you hate it when your mom is always right? First bath time rolled around and I plopped this foam on the counter beside the sink, laid my little angel on it, and discovered my third favorite baby item. My baby had a nice cushy place to lay that absorbed water and allowed me to feel confident at bath time.
Every mom discovers their own favorites that will definitely show up baby after baby, and these three things top my list and are my go to baby gift every time.
