How important is losing weight to you? For some it means everything. Not only can it drastically alter your appearance but can even keep you from getting a job. We all know the stigmas that are attached to being too overweight and they’re all negative, sometimes even scary. Therefore, it’s crucial to not only know the three basic requirements to weight loss but the correct thinking process that leads us to successfully stick to it.
Many want to lose weight as quickly as possible and become victims of “crash diets.” These diets are usually successful, but what happens after you have reached your ideal weight? How will your new weight be maintained? Unfortunately the majority are disappointed when their weight returns because their lifestyle doesn’t support it. And this is why we are constantly advised to have a healthy lifestyle for permanent weight loss. So if you’re determined to lose weight and keep it off, now is the time to incorporate new habits that will help you for a lifetime.
1. Keep a food diary
You might think that your diet is healthy until you see it in writing. Studies have found that documenting everything you eat and drink was the No. 1 key to weight loss in women because it makes you more conscious of what you eat. “Keep a food journal to document every morsel that passes your lips to monitor daily calorie intake,” concluded researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Accountability for everything you eat also discourages unnecessary or mindless snacks.
2. Eat healthy foods.
We know that we should eat healthy, but we need inspiration and motivation to do so and do it regularly. The way we think can empower us to eat healthy meals. One motivating factor is thinking that fruits and vegetables are medicine. Notice how they make you feel and add that notation to your food diary. If a particular fruit or vegetable regularly gives you energy or makes you feel happier, then especially make a note of that. For example Vitamin B is commonly called “the happy vitamin.” Therefore, the natural sources of these vitamins like kale, brussel sprouts and collard greens not only help you lose weight but also help you feel good about yourself.
Supplement your diet with raw foods as they give you enzymes, act as body cleansers and detoxifiers and contribute greatly to weight loss. Visualize your raw carrots and celery sticks brushing away all the dirt and grime from your insides so that you end up sparkling clean. Think of your spinach salad with cucumbers and tomatoes as the best beauty makeup you could possibly wear. Find your favorite hummus or spinach artichoke dip to help you get accustomed to the taste and then finally reward yourself.
3. Regular Exercise.
The way we feel about exercise will determine how often we engage in it. It’s easy to be intimidated by the amount of times we are supposed to exercise. And since many of us cannot reach those goals, we quickly give up. But exercise can be a perfect fit by using music as a motivator, playing your favorite sport like golf and starting off at your own pace. According to CNN Health, exercise experts say the most important message is to be active, regardless of the latest studies. How much one should exercise depends on personal fitness goals, they said. The key to exercise is that “some is better than none. More is better than some. Too much is difficult to get,” said Stephen Ball, associate professor of nutrition and exercise physiology.
