Shortly after I converted to raw veganism, I grew quite fascinated with the world of health. In so doing, I found learning more about the world of wellness both interesting and important. In doing research on various fruits that are out there, I have come to discover that eating grapefruit offers us a wide variety of wonderful health benefits. Here are three:
1. Aids In Weight Loss.
In discussing the health benefits of grapefruit, 3 Fat Chicks note that three factors enable the fruit to play a role in aiding weight loss. First, the fruit is high in enzymes which burn fat. Additionally, grapefruit has little sodium. Finally, the fruit has water content. Each of these factors contribute to grapefruit’s ability to increase our metabolism. When our metabolism rate increases, we also increase our ability to shed unwanted pounds.
2. Cancer Prevention.
While the fact that grapefruits can aid weight loss is stellar, it’s also great to know that they can help prevent the onset of cancer. This is the case as a result of the fact that the fruit contains lycopene. In addition to being the carotenoid pigment responsible for the fruit’s red color, lycopene works as a scavenger of free radicals that can cause cancer. Luckily, grapefruit also contains vitamins A and C, two components that lycopene works well with. Grapefruit also contains a compound called naringenin which aids in cancer prevention. Naringenin, which is an antioxidant compound, repairs the damaged DNA of prostate cancer cells. This facilitates cancer prevention by precluding the cancer cells from reproducing.
3. Vitamin C.
In discussing the health benefits of grapefruits, WHFoods notes that 1/2 a grapefruit contains 73.3% of the recommended daily allowance for vitamin C. This is wonderful given all the great health benefits vitamin C offers. Some of them include healing wounds and preventing cancer, cataracts, and heart disease. Vitamin C is also thought to help alleviate high blood pressure and the symptoms of a common cold.
Although there are a variety of wonderful fruits you could consume in order to improve your health, grapefruit offers unique benefits that make them a wonderful choice. By eating grapefruits regularly, you can begin walking in greater health and subsequently start leading a more productive and positive life. Good luck! :)
