Yesterday, I had carrot juice for the first time. Although I don’t think I had any preconceived notions regarding what it would taste like, I was fairly surprised to find that it was really sweet and very delicious. In recognizing the fact that I might start drinking carrot juice several times a week from now on, I grew curious as to what type of nutritional aids the orange vegetable will offer you and I. Here are three:
1. Vitamin K.
The health benefits of vitamin K are diverse, and individuals who enjoy eating carrots and optimizing wellness will be happy to note that each cup of the vegetable contains 20.1% of the DV. In addition to helping the body respond to nutrients through the regulation of normal blood clotting, vitamin K helps the body transport calcium to the regions where it needs to go. Additionally, vitamin K may aid in precluding the calcification of arteries and other soft tissue.
In discussing the health benefits of potassium, WebMD notes that it allows our kidneys to filter blood, nerves to fire, and muscles to move. In summation, WebMD maintains that potassium “literally allows the heart to beat.” Other benefits of potassium consumption include the lowering of our cholesterol and helping those with heart failure, high blood pressure, or heart rhythm problems. Because each cup of carrots comes packed with 11.1% of the DV for potassium, eating the orange vegetable can be highly beneficial for your health.
As many dietitians and nutritionists know, each cup of carrots contains 8.5% of the DV for manganese. The health benefits of manganese are diverse. In citing them, Organic Facts states that manganese contributes to healthy bone structure, bone metabolism, and the production of essential enzymes responsible for bone formation. Manganese also works as a co-enzyme which contributes to metabolic activities that transpire in the body. Some other benefits of manganese include the regulation of blood sugar level, absorption of calcium, and the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates.
Although there are a wide variety of vegetables you could consume in order to help maximize wellness, eating carrots can be particularly beneficial for the reasons listed above. If you have not already made carrots an integral aspect of your diet, you should consider doing so immediately. Good luck! :)
