Three Nutritional Benefits of Cranberries

by fat vox

For quite some time now, I’ve been in pursuit of optimal health. I have done several things to precipitate the process, such as converting to a raw diet and exercising consistently. In addition to recognizing the role that these things can play in facilitating wellness, I know that persistent research will facilitate my goal of attaining and maintaining health. Given that this is the case, I have become interested in learning more about the nutritional properties to be found in popular fruits. Here are three that can be found in cranberries:

1. Vitamin C.

As many health experts know, 1/2 a cup of cranberries contains 11% of the daily recommended allowance. In discussing the health benefits of vitamin C, Kathleen M. Zelman notes that some of them may include “protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling.” Additionally, vitamin C can reduce the experience of cold symptoms by acting as a natural antihistamine.

2. Fiber.

In addition to containing an ample amount of vitamin C, each 1/2 cup of cranberries contains 9.2% of the daily recommended allowance of fiber. This is important given that the majority of Americans do not eat the daily recommended allowance, which is 25-30 grams. Getting enough fiber is important for a plethora of reasons, including the fact that it helps aid our digestive processes by facilitating elimination. Additionally, fiber is very filling, a factor which can preclude us from overeating.

3. Manganese.

Manganese is a mineral that affords us a plethora of health benefits. In discussing the benefits of manganese, Organic Facts notes that it facilitates healthy bone structure, helps create essential enzymes for building bones, and contributes to bone metabolism. Additionally, manganese helps form connective tissue, facilitates the absorption of calcium, regulates blood sugar level, metabolizes carbohydrates and fats, and ensures the proper functioning of sex hormones and the thyroid gland. Individuals who enjoy eating cranberries should note that each 1/2 cup contains 9% of the daily recommended allowance.

Conclusion

Although there are a wide variety of fruits that you could eat to help facilitate health, consuming cranberries can be particularly advantageous because of the unique vitamins, minerals, and nutrients they offer. By eating more cranberries, you can become more healthy and thereby lead a more productive, positive life. Good luck! :)
