As I continue on my journey towards perfect health, I am continually reminded of the role that exercising plays in helping me optimize wellness. With that idea in mind, I recognize that continually changing the type of workout that I do is important given that challenging my body’s cardiovascular and strength capacities makes it function more efficiently. One way to challenge my body in these ways is through the use of exercise equipment. Although there is a variety of exercise equipment on the market, there are three types that I think you should definitely have. And they are:
1. Weights.
I personally have two sets of weights and I alternate between the two based on which muscle I’m training and what I’m attempting to accomplish. Irrespective of how many pounds you weight lift with, it is very important that you make weight-lifting an integral aspect of your workouts 2 to 3 times per week. This is the case for several reasons, including the fact that proper weight-lifting exercises helps build muscle which subsequently boosts your metabolism. This translates into you burning more calories than you would have without muscle, even when you’re being sedentary.
2. Jump Rope.
In discussing the benefits of jumping rope, MedicineNet notes that it helps tone several upper and lower body muscle groups, aids in coordination, and improves cardiovascular fitness. This may be why many pro athletes such as boxers participate in the activity. An additional benefit of jumping rope is the relatively low cost associated with the equipment. I purchased a great jump rope for target that cost just $20. This was a jump rope that had additional weight added into the handles such that my arms were more capable of developing muscle tone. I loved it.
3. Stability Ball.
Although I originally didn’t care for the stability ball, I’ll use one if the opportunity arises in the future. In discussing why the stability ball is important, Prevention.com notes that they can be used by themselves for workouts and stretches or with other exercise equipment like hand weights as a weight bench that challenges your balance capacities. Additionally, Prevention.com notes that lying or sitting across the stability ball causes you to engage all of your core muscles so that you can support yourself. Thus stability balls are a great tool to use if you’re attempting to cultivate a sculpted stomach.
Conclusion
As many gym rats and fitness lovers know, there are a ton of different types of exercise equipment on the market right now. This means it can be difficult for an individual to decide which one is right for them. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of the equipment pieces listed above. Good luck!
