Three Reasons You’re Not Able to Lose Weight

As I continue studying to become a Group Fitness Instructor, I am aware that one of the reasons that people begin an exercise program is to lose weight. With that thought in mind, I think it is important to understand the factors that can preclude you from losing weight. Here are three.

1. Hormonal Imbalance.

In discussing how hormonal imbalances can make it difficult to lose weight, MindBodyGreen notes that “If you are fatigued, suffer from PMS , experience irregular menstrual cycles, find it hard to lose weight, feel depressed or anxious, you may have a hormonal imbalance. Best to see a nutritionist or doctor who can support you and suggest certain tests that will confirm this so you can take appropriate action.” In recognizing that hormonal imbalances can prevent you from losing weight while also precipitating a plethora of other health problems, you should do all that you can to get them corrected as quickly and efficiently as possible.

2. You’re Not Attaining Enough Vitamin D.
In discussing how vitamin D can hinder weight loss, Dr. Mercola says “A new study of more than 4,600 women age 65 and older shows that having low vitamin D levels can contribute to mild weight gain. 1 Previous research has already showed that obese individuals tend to have low vitamin D levels. Women who had insufficient levels of vitamin D gained about two pounds more compared to those with adequate blood levels of vitamin D during the 4.5-year long study.” In recognizing the integral role that vitamin D can play in contributing to weight gain, you should be sure to get sufficient quantities of it. The sun is a great medium to use for this purpose. Food-wise, there are a variety of Standard American Diet (SAD) foods that are enriched with vitamin D. If you are a vegan like myself, you can attain ample amounts by eating mushrooms.

3. You’re Eating Too Fast.

Eating too fast is a debilitating thing to do for many reasons, including the fact that it precludes your body from registering signals of fullness. When this happens, you are likely to overeat. And, as many know, overeating can preclude you from losing weight. If you’re in the habit of eating too fast, take time to unlearn this behavior. There are several ways to do this, and one of them includes the cessation of meals on the go. These types of meals help facilitate poor eating habits by feeding into the “not enough time” mentality that precipitates consuming food too quickly.
Conclusion

If you are interested in losing weight in order to look great or obtain optimal health, you should know that doing so is more than possible. However, you should also be aware that there are several behaviors you can engage in that will preclude you from shedding the unwanted pounds. In considering the list above, you should determine whether or not you are committing any of the offenses I discuss. If so, behavior modification is in order. Once you make the necessary changes, you should be able to start losing weight. Good luck! :)
