Three Steps to a Better You!
Can it really be that simple, three steps? Well 3 simple steps, certainly can’t hurt especially when they are positive and self-affirming.
So what can You do to make today a little better?
1. Be Grateful
2. Take Care of You
In today’s world we are so often rushed, anxious, trying to multitask. It’s so easy to take for granted all that we have. The simple act of experiencing gratitude can improve any situation. At the start of your day, make a list of 5 things for which you are grateful. Maybe that you woke up today, have a roof over your head, have some food to eat, good friends, maybe a job or school. You can easily expand from there. You get the idea. The act of recognizing these positive aspects of our lives daily can keep us grounded and in a grateful frame of mind throughout the day.
Take Care of You!
Self-Care is absolutely essential for your overall health and well-being. We are all familiar with the basics, eating well, everything in moderation, exercise, avoid unhealthy people, places, and situations. This is all helpful however, I would like to encourage more deliberate and enjoyable self-care when possible. Telling yourself it is OK to read that novel that has nothing to do with work, school, or improving yourself esteem. It’s actually healthy to indulge in “play time” and read some fiction for- (gasp) Fun!Watch that new action, drama, comedy flick, take a walk, or take a bubble bath and make your own “spa day.” Really be Good to you!
Finally, take time to meditate. “I can’t meditate” or “I don’t know how” can no longer serve as excuses. Just sit with yourself in silence. Try for one, two, maybe 5 minutes.
See what happens. Acknowledge all thoughts as they arise. Don’t push them away just acknowledge and let them go. You’ll be amazed at where your mind goes and how much easier this can be with practice. Another benefit is clarity of thought and feeling more grounded during your day, even with as little as five minutes!
So, there it is- 3 simple things you can try. Not my original ideas, but things which have been suggested to me over the years. Today, I recommend these to you, because I have tried them and can say, they do work for me! Do I follow my own advice, you may ask. Sometimes. And I can say when I do- my days are much brighter!
