Although I have been passionate about fitness for quite some time now, I made a commitment to the raw vegan lifestyle just weeks ago. While I have experienced profound success on this diet, I have also had several pitfalls. In thinking about these pitfalls and the negative emotions they have entailed, I conclude that it is important to make other individuals who are interested in pursuing this lifestyle aware of how to avoid them so that they can reap all the benefits that result from clean eating. If you are currently considering converting to a raw vegan diet, keep these three tips in mind:
1. Don’t Lie About What You’re Doing.
Yesterday I was listening to one of my favorite raw food experts discussing tips regarding how to have success with this lifestyle. Although I agreed with almost all of the concepts she articulated throughout the video, I found myself at odds with her encouraging people to lie about their motives for starting the raw diet in order to avoid potentially problematic conversations or embarassment. While lying is always the wrong route to take, it can be uniquely debilitating in the context of raw food. This is the case for many reasons, including the fact that doing so can limit another individual’s access to important information regarding how to improve their health. In short, if you keep the fact that you’re a raw vegan a secret, you’re not giving your friends and family an opportunity to learn about a great way to maximize wellness.
2. Consciously Think About Your Preexisting Ideas About Food.
One challenge that you may experience as you pursue great health and happiness through raw food is the ideas about food that you had prior to beginning the lifestyle. Personally, I know that one concept about food which initially precluded me from doing the raw vegan diet wholeheartedly was a belief that I couldn’t get enough protein from it. Attaining adequate protein was very important to me for several reasons, including the fact that I exercise consistently and want to ensure that I remain toned through the apperance of lean muscle mass. Despite my preexisting ideas regarding the notion that I could only attain enough protein through a Standard American Diet (SAD), consciously thinking about the information I gained exposure to regarding the raw vegan diet changed my mind. Indeed, I can gain enough protein through the raw vegan diet because fruits, vegetables and nuts all contain adequate amounts of it when consumed in the right quantities.
3. Don’t Be Afraid To Turn Cooked Food Down.
Oftentimes, individuals who choose to pursue the raw food diet feel that they are being rude when they turn down cooked food offered by friends and family members. While you are definitely taking a great stab at politeness by accepting cooked food that others offer you, the more important principle here is sticking to the values you’ve devised for yourself. If you agree with raw vegans regarding the greater health that you can attain through the raw lifestyle because of the fact that raw food contains a higher enzyme content than their cooked counterparts, this conviction should be the driving force that guides your food decisions.
Although converting to a raw diet can be one of the most beneficial things that you do for your health, there are various pitfalls that you should seek to avoid in order to begin experiencing great results immediately.
