As an avid health enthusiast, I am always interested in learning more about how I can adjust my eating habits to attain optimal wellness. After stumbling upon the raw food diet a while back, I decided to give it a try. Upon doing so, I recognized the profoundly positive effect it had on my health and made a commitment to following the raw vegan diet permanently. Although I recognize the positive effect the raw vegan diet has had on my life, I also realize that individuals who try this lifestyle can have serious challenges upon doing so. Here are three things you can do to overcome those challenges.
1. Carry Snacks With You.
One of the challenges that many raw vegans experience upon converting to the diet is that the social or work-related events they attend tend to include cooked foods only. This can lead hopeful raw foodies to munch on the very foods they are attempting to eliminate from their diet. The solution is simple: Bring snacks with you. This strategy has worked very well for me. For example, I volunteer for the Young Adult Ministry at my church and we frequently serve pizza after our worship services. To help offset any cravings I may experience during this time, I keep portable fruit like plums and bananas in whatever bag I’m carrying. These fruits keep me full between meals so I’m less likely to eat something that is not a raw vegan food.
2. Buy In Bulk.
One of the main complaints that people voice when considering a healthy lifestyle is that it’s too expensive. Yet by shopping in a savvy fashion, you can make the raw vegan diet work for you. One way to keep costs down is to buy in bulk. Generally, buying larger volumes of foods is cheaper than purchasing smaller quantities. (Another effective strategy you should implement is buying from a local farmer’s market. This tends to be cheaper also.)
3. Try New Recipes.
When individuals express opposition to the raw vegan diet, one of their main objections is that all one can eat is fruit and salad. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are a wide variety of meals that raw vegans eat, including raw pasta with cashew sauce and avocado and raw pizza with spinach pesto & marinated vegetables. In giving tips for success on the raw food diet, Alison Andrews notes that you can drink your greens in the form of smoothies. I do this all the time and it is a delicious alternative to the traditional salad!
Conclusion
If you are interested in attaining optimal health, making the raw vegan diet an integral part of your lifestyle can be of great help to you. By implementing the strategies listed above, you can start experiencing success today. Good luck!
