Several months ago, I began thinking seriously about all of the physical and ethical reasons that converting to a raw vegan diet could be advantageous for me. After considering the subject seriously for a while, I made the decision to permanently adopt the diet. In so doing, I have found myself feeling incredibly happy and healthy. At the same time, however, I realize there are several mistakes I made on the raw food diet that precluded me from experiencing the positive results I wanted as fast as possible. If you are seriously considering making the raw vegan diet an integral aspect of your lifestyle, consider the three tips listed below:
1. Know Why You’re Doing It.
Last night I watched an amazing YouTube video in which a young woman who has had profound success on the raw food diet explained why she had chosen to convert to it. Her rationale was to attain clear skin and better digestion. Because she knew why she had converted to the diet, her desire to achieve certain goals likely helped her stay on the diet during seasons when cravings for cooked food or discouragement from individuals who only support mainstream diets were prevalent. If you have decided that you want to go on a raw food diet, you should identify the reasons you’re doing so. In so doing, you can remain motivated to continue on the diet during seasons in which your old taste buds or the ideas projected through mass media distract you.
2. Keep Fruit With You Always.
This is a trick I recently mastered and it has helped me immensely. Last month, I actually ended up eating five slices of pizza because I felt extremely hungry and had no fruit available. If you want to avoid clogging up your purified system with this type of food during time periods in which you experience hunger, be sure to keep some fresh fruit with you. I’m in the habit of carrying my favorite fruit (bananas) with me almost all the time. Other highly portable fruit includes apples and oranges. I’ve also started buying ziploc bags that I can carry grapes around in.
3. Write About Your Struggles And Triumphs.
Writing about how you’re doing on the raw diet can be very effective because it increases your consciousness of the behaviors you’re engaging in and helps you determine whether they are detracting from or contributing to your success. For example, if you note that you start having digestive issues on the raw food diet when you eat right before going to bed, writing this concept out can make your problem glaringly evident in your mind. Once this happens, you might be more likely to make the lifestyle adjustments necessary to cease eating late at night. (Two things you could consider doing if you have this problem is not skipping breakfast and eating an adequate number of calories throughout the day so you’re not hungry at night.)
Although converting to a raw vegan diet can be one of the best decisions you make in your life, you may encounter several challenges on this path. By implementing the strategies I’ve listed above, however, you can likely avoid the challenges that can preclude you from walking in optimal health. Good luck! :)
