Three Ways to Increase Your Metabolism

by fat vox

As I continue studying for my group fitness instructor certification exam, I am becoming more aware of the important role that metabolism plays in contributing to or detracting from wellness. Although there is much information about metabolism that an individual should grasp, recognizing that an increased metabolic rate can facilitate calorie burning is important for individuals interested in shedding unwanted pounds. If you are interested in accomplishing this goal, here are three ways that you can increase your metabolism:

1. Stretching.

As many health experts know, metabolism is the measure of the rate at which an individual’s body consumes or “burns” calories. In discussing ways to boost metabolism, Peak Health Advocate notes that stretching can boost metabolism and thereby burn calories. This is an important reality to recognize for those interested in weight loss or maintenance. There are a variety of stretches you can do to increase metabolic rate, including yoga poses.

2. Eating Breakfast.

People who love to eat may get excited about learning that having a meal first thing in the morning can help facilitate weight loss. As noted by SFGATE in discussing why eating breaking increases metabolism, keeping one’s metabolism running at maximum capacity requires that you eat “regular, frequent meals.” One of these meals should be breakfast. But just because eating breakfast means that you can raise your metabolism doesn’t mean that you can eat anything you want. Consuming high fat, sugary foods packed with calories will not help you. Your breakfast should be comprised of nutritionally dense foods like fresh fruits or healthy nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or cashews.

3. Stop Sitting.

A lengthy period of inactivity such as watching TV or sitting still at a computer can bring your metabolism down. For this reason, you should avoid being sedentary at all costs. There are a variety of things you can do to preclude yourself from sitting still for an extended period of time, such as going for a walk once or twice a day or going out for lunch rather than having it at your office desk.

Conclusion

If you are interested in losing weight by increasing your metabolic rate or simply keeping it up to remain healthy, the strategies listed above can help you. In keeping your metabolic rate up, you will likely find that you begin leading a more productive, positive life. Good luck!
