As a full-time college student who is on the path to becoming an ordained pastor, I realize that life can be rife with pressures and obligations capable of making every day life stressful or boring. In recognizing the role that responsibilities and obligations can play in detracting from one’s enjoyment of every day life, I am always looking for strategies I can implement to make my day full and eventful despite the continual pile of work I am responsible for completing. Here are three life skills that I have developed which enable me to enjoy the journey towards success, personal fulfillment, and joy. I think they can help you accomplish these things as well.
I cannot overemphasize how effective planning can be in improving the quality of your every day life. In addition to precluding you from forgetting important events and obligations, planning provides you with more free time to do the activities you love. If you are unaccustomed to planning, begin to break this bad habit by creating a To Do list and recording important events in a planner. Personally, part of my weekly plan includes setting aside time to publish a minimum of two blog posts on each of my blogs (The Political Slant and Seven Atlanta.) Once I’ve done this, I feel a sense of personal satisfaction that results from completing a task I’ve made a commitment to. Additionally, this planning effort keeps me moving towards my goal of generating a full-time income from blogs alone. These are just two of the positive effects that can result from consistent planning.
Consistent exercise has innumerable benefits that can contribute to making your day more productive and positive. One of them includes the fact that exercise releases the hormone serotonin in our bodies. Because serotonin promotes feelings of peace and happiness, doing exercise will help ensure that you remain in an elevated mood throughout your day. To ensure that your exercise efforts are efficacious, be sure to set yourself up for success by placing your workout DVDs in conspicuous areas of your home or by getting a running buddy. You should also think about getting a personal trainer who will have the education and expertise necessary to help you make the most of your workout.
As writer Meredith Melnick pointed out in discussing the benefits of meditation, studies have shown that meditating helps alleviate anxiety, depression, stress, addiction, cognitive function, and eating disorders. Additionally, research now indicates that meditation is capable of reducing your blood pressure, stress hormone levels, response to pain, and cellular health. In recognizing the plethora of physical and psychological benefits that meditation offers, you should definitely make it an integral aspect of your daily life. In so doing, you’ll reduce the amount of tension you experience when you encounter every day challenges.
If you want to improve the quality of your every day life, you should note that doing so will take conscious effort. Yet by implementing the strategies I’ve listed above, your efforts will likely pay off. Good luck!
