”If people bet on me, they’re going to make a lot of money, so I suggest they do. I was put in this position not only to humble the boxing world, but to humble Floyd Mayweather,” said Robert Guerrero.
Guerrero believes he will pull off an upset in his fight against Mayweather. But, most boxing experts and fans do not think he will win this bout. Therefore, what are the top 4 reasons why Robert Guerrero is a huge underdog against Mayweather?
Robert Guerrero is smaller than Mayweather
Guerrero has spent most of his boxing career in the featherweight division. And he has only fought two bouts at welterweight. So Guerrero is the naturally smaller fighter in the Mayweather-Guerrero bout.
Mayweather is bigger and stronger than Guerrero and he has a reach advantage too. Besides, Mayweather has been able to defeat bigger fighters at junior middleweight so he will dominate the smaller and less talented Guerrero.
Robert Guerrero lacks great punching power
A boxer that has tremendous punching power always has a chance to defeat a fighter with superior hand speed, athleticism, and boxing skills. But, Guerrero lacks one punch knockout power. He is a volume puncher that wears his opponents down.
Almost all of Guerrero’s bouts have gone distance since he moved up to heavier weight classes. His knockout percentage at lightweight and welterweight is only 14%. And Mayweather has superior boxing skills so Guerrero will not be able to bully him around the ring like he did against Andre Berto.
Robert Guerrero has a thin resume
Guerrero has a thin resume. He has not defeated any elite fighters. And he does not belong in the ring against the best boxer in the world after only two bouts in the welterweight division.
Guerrero’s biggest win of his career was against Berto. Yet, Berto has average boxing skills and he has lost his biggest fights. The other biggest names on his resume are former champions that were way past their prime when he fought them such as Joel Casamayor and Michael Katsidis.
Guerrero is fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather is loved and hated by fight fans. But, all fans and boxing experts know that he is one of the most skilled boxers ever to lace up a pair of gloves.
Guerrero is confident going into his fight against Mayweather because he defeated Berto. But, he is vastly stepping up his level of competition in this bout. Likewise, it will be a rude awakening for Guerrero on May 5th when Mayweather gives him a lesson on the sweet science and shows why he is the best boxer of his generation.
