There have been numerous performance collaborations in the history of the Grammy Awards.
Here are the top five best performance collaborations in Grammy history.
Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond team up in 1980
Both known as wonderful singers, Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond teamed up in 1980 to give a great collaborative performance. The pair sang the song “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.” This is ranked as one of the greatest musical performances for numerous reasons, including for Streisand overcoming stage freight when it comes to performing in public.
Elton John collaborates with Eminem in 2001
Legendary singer Elton John collaborated with controversial rapper Eminem in 2001. This was a powerful team not only because of their signing, but also because Eminem got into hot water with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation over remarks he made in his 2000 album “The Marshall Mathers LP.” The two performers gave an outstanding performance of the song “Stan.”
Madonna, Gorillaz, & De La Soul start the show in 2006
Known for her vibrant personality, Madonna gave a stellar performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards, with the musical group Gorillaz and hip hop trio De La Soul. This is a notable performance collaboration as the Gorillas are an animated act, and not a three-dimensional band. It is interesting to note that this was the first time the Grammys started with an animated act. Finally, the opening act featured a medley of songs, including Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” and Madonna’s “Hung Up.” This standout moment goes down as one of the most creative ways to open the show.
Radiohead & the USC Marching Band make an interesting pair in 2009
The 51 st Annual Grammy Awards was such a great awards ceremony that it won a 2009 Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series or Special. One factor that led to this Emmy was a memorable performance by Radiohead with Spirit of Troy, which is the USC Marching Band. The pair performed the song “15 Step,” which is one of the songs on the 2007 Radiohead album “In Rainbows.”
Lady Gaga & Elton John perform well together in 2010
Along with performing with Eminem in 2001, Elton John performed well again at the Grammy Awards in 2010 with Lady Gaga. With Lady Gaga again proving to music fans that she will wear anything to get the spotlight, she and Elton John performed a splendid rendition of his classic “Your Song.” This performance collaboration is also remarkable for the two playing on the same giant piano and for both of them wearing rhinestone shoes. This performance certainly goes down as one for the best.
