Cash-back rewards for every-day convenience items like food and toiletries are a great way to put cash back into the pockets of shoppers; imagine finding an app that not only rewards the shopper for items they need, but also creates a fun, game-like aspect to shopping. That app is ReceiptHog.
ReceiptHog is an mobile app currently available on Apple Iphones that allows users to receive cash back from participating grocery venues by earning rewards through snapping a photo of their receipt. Here is how it works. Once a user receives his/her grocery receipt, the user uses his/her camera phone to snap a picture of the receipt, and the app validates the receipt. Once validated, the receipt is rewarded with coins, and placed inside a piggy bank, termed as “feeding the hog”. Participation and frequency of “feeding the hog” is further rewarded with free virtual slot machine spins, brief surveys, as well a referral program for every new member the user brings, all of which earns the user additional coins. Once the piggy bank reaches a specified amount of coins, users are eligible to cash out using Paypal or redeem their coins for amazon gift cards.
The rules of submitting receipts to this app are as follows: users can upload up to 20 receipts a week, with no more than three receipts from the same store per day. However, ReceiptHog allows users to submit their receipts up to seven days after purchase, so there is not a big rush to submit all receipts at once. The more receipts the user submits over time, the more coins he/she will be rewarded for each receipt; for example, users begin with his/her piggy bank at level 1: Runt, earning 10 coins per receipt. Once the user reaches 100 coins (or 10 receipts), his/her hog becomes a Piglet (level 2) earning 15 coins per receipt, etc. Currently, users can redeem 1000 coins for $5.00 through Paypal, and saving coins is further rewarded with 1800 coins redeemed for $10.00, 3200 coins for $20.00, etc.
Pros: The app is a perfect symbiosis, where both parties benefit from using the app. Here is why: ReceiptHog is a market research company that works with consumer brands. Users are contributing to this research with daily submissions, which the company summarizes with market research reports for the brands that wish to purchase that information. Therefore, there is no “catch”; everyone’s needs are met!
This app is also very user-friendly, fun, and easy to navigate (not to mention has very good customer reviews). It certainly is a great tool to organize and be fiscally aware of one’s shopping habits and expenditures, while at the same time earning money back in rewards. This app is certainly great for the careful smart shopper to get the most bang for their buck.
Cons: The camera screen to snap receipt photos on occasion will not activate, and requires the user to exit back to the app home page and repeat hitting the camera button. This can get a bit frustrating.
So, if you are looking for a quick, fun, and easy way to get cash back on your grocery and convenience store purchases, be sure to check out ReceiptHog!
