We are all human beings. We are all born dreamers. If you don’t have a dream, or some big goal in life, then you know that at some point in your life you’ve had one. If you’re reading this article, then maybe your dream has failed you. Maybe you’re looking for some motivation; that extra kick or boost.
Now hey, I don’t have all the answers. This isn’t some detailed instructional or precise formula on how to make millions or be famous.
I know what you’re thinking “well what am I reading then” …well…
Why were you put on this earth? Why are you here? I’m sure whether it’s been from someone else, or from yourself, I’m positive you’ve been asked that question at least once in your life. I’m going to be honest; I ask myself that every day. But why? I ask myself that not because I’m unaware of my purpose but because I am very much aware…and I want to remind myself of that every day. In a sense it keeps me on track; on point; on focus with where I am, where I’m going and what I want to become in life.
What do you want to become in life? Or…What did you want to become in life? What is stopping you? Why are you at the point of where you are right now and what’s it going to take to move you forward to where you want to be? Too many questions? That’s only half of them. That’s the first step. Questions. See, the funny thing about questions is that they never run out, and once you’ve asked the right ones, you will be able to open doors to new insight and intellect. Today your adventure on insight and intellect should lead you straight to the answers that will help shape and reshape your dreams. At least, that’s what my intent is bent upon. Too many people wander around this earth blindly misusing the energy in their bones living a life they’ve never intended on.
So why were you put on this earth? …TO BE HAPPY! I’m sure we are all convinced that if we were to live our dreams we would all be happy. So why are we not living our dreams?
You need to change your mind set. Yes, yes. I know you’ve probably heard that a million times but what does it really mean? Your mindset is what started it all. If you’re stuck, then your mindset is what got you into this mess and with a little application it will surely get you out. Your mind is an infinite power; there is no sure direction of where it will go unless you take that wheel in drive it there. A dream springs from an impulse that says “take me there”.
There is nothing stopping you from reaching that destination……
…Okay you know what. WRONG!
There is something stopping you. Otherwise you obviously wouldn’t be here reading this. It’s very easy to say that there is nothing stopping you when the reality is, you’re broke. You’re not strong enough, fast enough, You don’t know the right people, you don’t have the resources..You know what, you name it.
I like to call them “blocks”… We’re all safe to say that it’s also pretty easy to give up when you feel as though you’re totally surrounded by blocks. For those who aren’t giving up, it’s equally easy to just read a mantra off anywhere, kinda like ones that say ” There is nothing stopping you from reaching that destination” but the reality is, blocks are blocks.
Let’s get reaaaaal simple here. If blocks are your problem then you have to break it down a little bit. No problem comes as just a problem; a problem arises from little mishaps that lead to an eventual collapsing. In such event, it would be wise to fix all the little problems or “mishaps” as we call them, which would eventually, in its entirety, fix the big problem. So here’s your first pointer:
Isolate the little problems to fix all the BIG problems.
Develop a sense of analysis. What is in your way of moving forward? Take note of all the issues regardless of the difficulty. Develop an effective and sensible strategy to fixing them. Your life is your life and you need to start controlling that. So maybe you need to move to an area that offers more promise, or go to college, set up a store front, set up a work space. Maybe your problem involves taking a big step in your life resulting in drastic change. Maybe you’re scared. Well guess what, there’s no lighter way to put it; maybe the very thing you are afraid of doing can ultimately be one of the biggest steps you can take to achieving your goal. So go ahead, pack up and go to L.A…Whatever floats that boat?
Surely you won’t be able to do all that stuff without money so this would of course lead me to my second pointer:
Always have money!
How much money do you need to support this dream?
If you are one of the lucky ones, where you’ve tasted the silver spoon and you have lavish savings to indulge in, OR you already have a job, then congratulations. Skip this step. For the others, I suggest getting a job. A legitimate, steady job. Get some money, do something that pays; something that won’t get you arrested for -Just something that will back that goal up and help push it forward. A little money can pull you a long way. Until you’ve made it, you have to make it on your own, therefore you have to be prepared to do things on your own and provide for yourself. Let’s say, you decide to go to L.A to kick start that acting career. You want to be able to have a secure place to stay, food and money to support you till you get that job. You certainly don’t want to be stranded on the pavement without backup. Passions can quickly ware at the stress line when financial fuel runs out. Importantly enough, a dream without passion isn’t a dream at all; my third pointer:
Passion is your new religion.
Oh yes I did. I said the word religion and I’m going to say it again, Passion is your new religion. For all you pessimists, where you’ve been lead to believe that your dream is dead or goal is unreachable or for all the others that don’t seem to even have a goal at all? This is for you.
Wake up! You can’t be a complex human being if you’re not passionate about something. What are you passionate about? Whatever it is you’re after, you’re going to have to develop a new hunger for it. Live, eat, sleep, breathe and see it. Get a tattoo of it if you please…okay maybe not but. You cannot allow your focus to let up for one second because see, sometimes the world has a way testing people. If you really want something, the world is going to try everything in and out of the book to test the level of faith and passion you have in a dream. People are going to tell you no and you are going to fail but if you’ve understood and mastered the art of fixing and resolving the little problems then you should be back on the peddle in no time. All of this has to add up to something so here’s the next pointer:
Have a plan.
Maybe this should have been the first pointer but I don’t think you want to have a plan and then go through all these glorious steps just to realize that the amount of passion you have equals to the amount of dirt you have in your left pinky finger. Growing up I was taught to forget about the “How to” and just think about the goal. That’s exactly what I did for a couple of years. Frankly, it works to an established point. In the end I realized that because I didn’t have a plan, I found myself to be going in circles. Anything that goes in circles always ends up spiraling downwards; crashing. We don’t want that.
Having a plan means that you can go from point A to point B never having to go back to point A again. How are you going to move securely and successfully from where you are to where you want to be? Of course, you’ll have to be cautious with staging this plan as well as have a contingency plan and then a contingency plan for the contingency plan as to ensure that your path is fool proof. Did i confuse you? Well ….read that a couple times and make sense of it. This is your dream, you can’t be messing around. So again, if you’re going to go to L.A make sure you’ve planned everything ahead so that you don’t get stuck. The world isn’t going to wait up for you to sort yourself out. It’s just not.
How much do you really know?
You want to make it big. Whatever your idea of “big” is, that’s where you want to be. Nobody earns their stripes from being a rookie, or a novice. So practice your craft and practice it well. Get a simple job that works closely with the field and then perform like no other. I guess that explains itself enough so here’s my last and most important pointer:
Age means nothing!
..It means absolutely nothing. You know something? I wish people would stop telling people to grow up. Or you know what? Even better yet, we can grow up get old and still think and want things with childlike clarity. Society has gotten into this habit of classifying and categorizing people; telling people where they should be at what age. Your maturity can be your biggest asset as well as your biggest setback.
Of course, being older while trying to sort your path out, you first have to come to grounds of realistic levels; realistic goals. So if you are 40 and you want to be a professional skateboarder…then hey go for it..Whatever floats that boat. [you didn’t see that coming huh]. The mind has a way of adjusting to the commitment and surely enough with the right training someone can be a professional skateboarder at 40. Hey, that might just be their thing. Be mindful that one ought to be realistic in committing to outlandish goals and be prepared to be looked at differently from conventional, conservative outsiders.
My main point is…
Not everyone peaks in their teens, or early twenties. Matters of fact, some of the most brilliant icons were late bloomers. Most dancers start as a toddler but guess what, Martha Graham, started at 24! Yea, she did. Google it. Van Gogh didn’t start painting till his late twenties and what about Julia Child?? She started learning to cook when she was 40!
I suppose in the end, it all boils back down to the very basics; the minds fixation and the amount of work you’re willing to put in. Stop procrastinating, stop putting it aside. If you’ve started the journey then you’re already living half the dream. A goal without action is like faith without conviction and to read results you must take it all seriously and be prepared to work hard, very hard. Rome was not built in a day. Hard work does indeed bring success, a lot of stress and experience.
It’s also important to enjoy the journey, never forget the route and never lose sight of the destination.
Ending with the most clichéd quote of all, “never give up on your dreams” …
Now go forth and bask in the magic of happiness.
