With a name like Harry Styles, it would seem that you were just born to be the leading man in a boy band. Not that this is new for the Brits or anything, we remember the Beatles of course. In the meantime, we were held over by American groups like N’sync and The Backstreet Boys. But One Direction is enchanting tweens across the globe, climbing to the top with their new single, “Story of My Life,” and breaking hearts along the way.
The band wasn’t quite a household name when they performed on Good Morning America a while back. This was made apparent when Robin Roberts called them “One Addition” on national television. Instead of letting it slide, one of the band members screamed, “ONE ADDITION,” and jumped around mocking the mistake before they went to commercial. But chances are, if you haven’t heard of them, you will now. During the short amount of time I do spend listening to the radio, I have heard their new release, “Story of My Life” multiple times.
Harry Styles seems to be the standout lead in this group. Will we see him break away like Justin Timberlake in order to pursue a solo career, one might ask. He has already solidified his place as a celebrity since winning a court case against the paparazzi that won’t leave him alone around his London home. Oh, and let’s not forget the celebrity girlfriend. He’s crushing little hearts across the nation with his relationship with Kim Kardashian’s younger sister, Kendall Jenner.
What is next? Well, alcohol and drug problems can’t be too far off in the future, and it’s almost guaranteed that the group will split up- only to have a reunion performance at some awards show soon after. These aren’t things we wish upon them; they’re just the things that are written in the stars for boy bands. We don’t make the rules.
And finally, one asks, “Where is Simon Cowell in all this?” Well, you guessed it. He is somehow responsible for this magical group. The group that will produce many songs to come that we won’t be able to get out of our heads.
So parents beware, ticket prices are bound to be astronomical for a seat at this band’s concerts. A basic Google search gives you starting prices at $103.99. I’d keep the radio station’s phone number close so you can win tickets rather than dip into the mortgage money. Let alone the outrageous lines and hoards of screaming teens you we undoubtedly have to endure. But if you are still a champ who insists to go on, Ticketmaster is usually a safe bet. There are other options too. At Stubhub, you can get tickets for an August concert starting at $186.50.
Well, the best of luck to all you parents out there as you navigate the world of tween obsessions. You know you better buy the tickets now because in a year or two, there may no longer be a “One Direction.”
