Uranus in Aries, circa 1933
The Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I, imposed harsh restrictions on Germany. The country lost land (Germany itself, as well as colonies in Africa) and people. The army was disassembled and the country’s war machinery (ships and tanks) was taken by Great Britain and France. Most significantly, Germany was so heavily fined to pay for reparations for what it had done during the war, that it was financially destroyed. By 1923 hyperinflation struck the country, which meant the German paper currency, the mark, became worthless. Some used it in the fireplace. Germany, under a new government called the Weimar Republic, was now desperately suffering massive poverty, starvation and unemployment. Their national pride also took a hard blow. Between 1924-1929, the Weimar government borrowed heavily from the United States of America. Then, the stock market crash of 1929 occurred and Germany could not repay the USA. Germany was plunged into unrecoverable debt. More notably, their national pride had become not only wounded but beaten and collectively the German people were desperate, humiliated, and angry. This set the stage for Adolf Hitler and his new nationalistic Nazi Party.
In 1933, the Nazi Party in Germany began a systematic takeover of the local governments throughout the land. This ended a centuries-old tradition of local political independence. Armed with guns, they forced their way into local government offices using a state of emergency decree. Next, they threw out legitimate office holders and replaced them with Nazi Reich commissioners. The emergency decree made it possible for Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Reich to interfere with non-Nazi elected representatives of the people by arresting them. Hitler then lied and manipulated the government into passing The Enabling Act. He immediately used it to strip that same government of power and oust it. The state (The Nazi Third Reich) became supreme and the individual no longer had freedom or rights. Hitler was able to get the fuel (support) for his hatred and violence because many German people were suffering in poverty due to prior wars. He found them a scapegoat — the democratic party in power, and the Jews living in Germany and the remainder of the world. Promising security and prosperity for all (non-Jewish) Germans through the violent rise of “the master Aryan race” Hitler and The Nazi Party went on to rampage across Europe and orchestrate the murder of millions of people.
Uranus in Aries, 2013
This was only one of the major world events the last time Uranus transited Aries (1927-1934). At that time, we had Pluto in Cancer. Now we have Pluto in Capricorn, which is the opposite sign. Uranus square Pluto, then as now, was an enormous showdown between individual freedom and rights against powerful dark authorities. Then, as now, it caused great upheaval for home and family.
Now we have Uranus in Aries again, in a series of seven squares with Pluto in Capricorn. Former National Security Agency contractor and computer geek Edward Snowden recently exposed the extent of the USA’s spying upon American citizens and governments around the world and is now a fugitive. This situation is a pure example of Uranus in Aries ramming up against Pluto in Capricorn. Many people support his exposure of secret governmental use of power; but, there are people who want Snowden arrested for “betrayal” and “treason” and put into the deep, dark recesses of prison for a lifetime. Such a punishment is reminiscent of hell or Hades. If you know your mythology, then you know the Greek god Hades is, in Roman mythology, named Pluto.
Pluto in Capricorn is being expressed through the revelation of government’s dark, abysmal, corrupt and repressive use of power and authority to cut off human freedom and individuality. Pluto in Capricorn represents these same governments giving themselves more powers, more permission to do things in secrecy and more authority to create a dark cover of laws to hide their deeds and punish anyone who challenges or exposes them.
This Pluto energy is being squared by Uranus the Revolution and Rebel, in the sign of Aries — the Pioneer, the Individual, and the Leader. In Roman mythology, Aries is the energy of an angry and courageous warrior-leader who is willing to fight on the bloody front lines if that is what it takes to restore freedom and individuality. Uranus in Aries is the energy of being well-armed and well-equipped to strategically combat oppressive abuses of power, which is the energy of Pluto in Capricorn).
What we get from all this is that humanity is learning once again this lesson: corrupt structures will be broken down in order for new structures honoring human freedom and individuality to exist. The structures eventually are broken down because they are corrupt, but it is a hard fight. This time around, it will also be explosive like a volcano. Just as Hitler’s promised 1000 year Third Reich encountered resistance and came to a bloody crashing end, it is likely that the corrupt deeds of governments be also exposed and smashed down by the people.
