The ingredients that are included in make-up foundations, powders, lipstick, etc. are harsh and can clog pores, which can lead to an irritation. That irritation can ultimately lead to sores or pimples that turn into dark marks, also known as skin discoloration. Oil-free foundations are deemed to be the best foundations for those with sensitive skin.
As far back as I could remember, I had sensitive skin and was diagnosed with eczema at the age of 15. Eczema is a group of medical conditions that cause the skin to become inflamed or irritated. When I first discovered I had eczema, I thought the term didn’t sound as bad as the pain. If you have ever had eczema as a child, you know exactly what I am talking about. The skin on my inner elbow and knees were completely scraped off. If I moved an inch, the pain was unbearable. I had to wait weeks until it healed and it was excruciating pain the whole time.
This went on for years until I was 18 years of age and I am beyond elated that I no longer have to deal with that. The only thing that I have is itchy skin. If I step out in the sun, my skin is itching everywhere or sometimes it will start itching for no reason. It is really annoying, especially if I am in public.
What the Doctor Recommended
When I went to the dermatologist’s office, the sole reason for visiting a dermatologist was to ascertain why having chicken pox left me with skin discolorations on my arms and legs. I came out uncovering a lot of truths about myself. I had eczema andvery sensitive skin. I had no idea that I had to take extra care of my skin and couldn’t do certain things.
The dermatologist recommended that I do not go outside without wearing sunscreen. It could irritate my skin, cause rashes, and cause my current skin discolorations to darken. I was also told that I shouldn’t use make-up that contains oil or use lotions that contained any kind of fragrance. She also informed me that I should use a lotion that’s called Cetaphil and to use Cover Girl make-up since it doesn’t have any oils in its ingredients.
Of course, I didn’t listen and ended suffering the consequences. If a dermatologist tells you to do something, you should do it. He/she isn’t telling you just to say it; they are telling you because that is the best option for you.
After years of using different cosmetic brands that contained oils, the condition of my skin deteriorated. I no longer have dark skin discoloration, but I do have scarring that is very faint. I also get severe acne that leads into dark marks on my skin. Using Cover Girl has definitely put a halt to my break outs. I can now wear make-up on sensitive skin and don’t have to fret about breaking out the next day. If you have sensitive skin, be sure to see a dermatologist before deciding what make-up brand to use on your skin.
