You’re pretty sure that all your Google Play movies and TV show purchases are locked with your Google devices only, right? Well, just to let you know, you’re dead wrong. We all know from the very start this analogy: Apple is to iTunes, and Google is to Google Play, plain and simple. We also know that they are two completely different worlds when it comes to sharing videos and other content.
So why are we saying that you’re dead wrong? Because you can actually view the movies and TV shows that you purchased from Google Play using your iOS device — no tricks needed in order for it to work. There’s no jailbreaking or rooting procedure involved on your device here. If you’re still mumbling on how can this be possible, you may want to try the steps below and see for yourself.
First, you need to install the YouTube app on your iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad). Once you have the YouTube app installed, run it and then sign in to your YouTube account (same as your Google/Gmail account). Next, tap the menu button at the upper left-hand corner to display the menu. You can also swipe to the right of the screen to get to the menu.
From the menu, tap on Purchases. This is where you can see all your Google Play movies and TV shows. Tap to select the one that you want to watch on your iOS device. That’s it folks!
Alternatively, there’s another way on how you can watch your Google Play movies and TV shows on your iOS device. Here’s how:
On your iOS device, go to the App Store then search for Google Play (or specifically Google Play Movies & TV). Download and install the app. Then once the app is successfully installed, you should be able to watch your purchased movies and TV shows using your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. However, be reminded that you cannot make new purchases via the app. You still need to do it via Google Play Store on an Android device. Also, the app has no support for 3G/4G streaming, so in order to watch these shows, you’ll need a WiFi connection.
Now the biased part here is that it doesn’t work the same way with iTunes. At the moment, it’s not possible to watch movies and TV shows that were purchased in iTunes via an Android device. Another down side of the app is that it does not have AirPlay support yet. Therefore, you won’t be able to beam videos to your TV via the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation). Nevertheless, it’s still good news because you now have an alternative on purchasing movies and/or TV shows. Another this is that Google Play sometimes offers discounts and giveaways that iTunes normally does not do.
So even if you don’t have a smartphone or tablet that has Android platform, you can still have the option to watch your most sought-after movies and TV series from your iOS device. Pretty neat, don’t you think?
