Not all mobile home kitchens are small. On the contrary, they can be just as big as or bigger than those found in stick-built homes. They can also be every bit as impressive. The countertops can be just as spacious as well. However, just like counters in site-built homes, they are sometimes lacking in both size and placement. Use these smart and stylish ways to save counter space. They will have greater capacity for holding everything from cookie sheets to buffet-style feasts. Keep them clear and you will have more than enough room for food preparation and self-serve meals.
Buy Cabinet-Mounted Appliances
Small appliances can take up a tremendous amount of counter space, especially if you use an electric can opener, a toaster or toaster oven and a CD player. Give away or sell counter top cookers, openers and players, and opt for cabinet-mounted versions. They will utilize bare areas that would have otherwise gone unused, and counters will be free and clear for baking, bill paying and projects galore. They will also look better in your small mobile home.
Do Away with the Counter Top Dish Drainer
A dish drainer takes up more counter space than an entire side of the kitchen sink, especially in a small mobile home. The sink is just one of the fixtures and features that is inexplicably smaller. Save valuable counter space by doing away with the dish drainer set. Use a drying mat that will not take up square footage when not in use, or place a vinyl and wire dish drainer in one side of the sink.
Find another Place for Potted Plants
If you love potted plants, chances are that some have made their way into the kitchen. In a small mobile home, several houseplants can make a room look and feel like a jungle. When looking for ways to save counter space, find another place for potted plants. Consider using hanging baskets, or invest in an adjustable tiered plant stand to place in front of a sunny window. They will likely fare better in another location.
Store Canisters in a Kitchen Cabinet
Decorative canisters in graduating sizes look lovely on a kitchen counter top, but they are not worth displaying if the amount of available space is greatly lacking. Save worktop space in your small mobile home by putting away the canisters. Avoid displaying decorative tabletop pieces of any type in the kitchen. The benefit of using decorative containers does not outweigh the negative aspect of storing them on the counters and taking up valuable space.
