“We the People”
These are the three most powerful words ever penned in the history of mankind. And they are under assault today. Who will rise up and come to their defense?
A dead fish rots from the head back. The “head” of our “fish” in America are the three words that begin The Constitution of the United States of America, and those three words are, “We the People.” Our national “fish” has been poisoned by one Supreme Court decision. Citizens United v. F.E.C. A ruling that was decided by a 5-4 decision. Stop and think about this for a moment. In essence one person decided the future fate of our nation. One person turned a minority opinion into a majority opinion. One person said that we no longer need to heed those three words “We the People” that our nation was founded on. The three words that hundreds of years of law have been written to defend and protect.
Justice Kennedy declared, as stated in the majority opinion by the Supreme Court, that, “…the BCRA §203 prohibition of all independent expenditures by corporations and unions violated the First Amendment’s protection of free speech.” In essence, they declared that corporations have a First Amendment right to free speech and that money constitutes free speech. We now live in a world where ipso facto, money equals free speech. The long term effect of this is that we will become a nation with laws created of the rich and powerful, by the rich and powerful, and for the rich and powerful. “We the People” will soon become nothing more than a distant memory.
We can do nothing, or we can set things straight. To set things straight will take some work. A lot of work. Work that is designed by our forefathers to be difficult, but not impossible. The work that is necessary is working to amend our Constitution to put power back into those three words “We the People” and to overturn the disastrous Citizen United v. F.E.C. decision. The methodology to do this is defined in Article V of our Constitution. Some have tried to start the job, but now is the time to finish it. Nothing is more important today. Nothing!
I ask all of you, no, I plead with all of you, that you stop sitting on your hands and rise up in proactive and committed support and to make a personal commitment to make a Constitutional amendment to override Citizens United v. F.E.C. a reality. You will do nothing more important than this in your lifetime.
Join me in committing to make a personal and public display of your desire to be a nation of “We the People” and not “We the Corporations.” Make a commitment to attend and support the “March to Rediscover America” on Columbus Day, Monday, October 13, 2014 at every state capital and in Washington D.C. Make plans and commit some of your personal financial resources to make this a reality. People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. Start planning. Arrange for time off from work to attend. Line up the baby sitter to take care of your children so you can attend, or better yet bring them along! Help other concerned citizens to find others with this common interest so this grass roots effort can become a reality. Start saving a little here and a little there so you can make a contribution, or to be able to pay your own way. If you can’t go yourself, find someone else that can. Facebook users are invited to join our open group on Facebook March to Rediscover America to keep in touch with future developments or to make a commitment to participate.
If not you, then who? If not now, then when?
