Weight Watchers ActiveLink is an electronic device intended to track your personal level of physical activity throughout the day . This device, available exclusively to Weight Watchers members, also tracks the number of PointsPlus values on the Weight Watchers program that each physical activity is worth–these PointsPlus values can then be exchanged in order to eat more food on the program.
In order to earn extra PointsPlus values with the ActiveLink program, your level of physical activity must exceed the “activity base line” that the Weight Watchers program sets. But what exactly does this mean? Why is the activity base line important to your weight loss success?
According to the Active Link help page, Weight Watchers assumes you will get a bare minimum of physical activity in your daily activities, like grooming, cleaning, shopping, etc. when they make their PointsPlus target recommendations. The amount of calories they say you should burn just living your daily life counts as your activity base line. This amount is built into the plan, so to speak, so if you are not hitting your activity base line, you will not be consuming the correct amount of calories. This could mean that your weight loss efforts ultimately won’t be successful.
When you do additional physical activity above and beyond your activity base line, you will earn extra PointsPlus values that can be spent however you wish. However, it is important to note that based on the time of day you do your workout, the PointsPlus values may not be immediately reflected on the Weight Watchers website. This is because your workout will count towards your activity base line–however, you will reach that base line quicker in the day, and then more of your regular activity will earn PointsPlus values throughout the day. In the end, it all evens out and you do get credit for your workouts. This is confusing to some users, but the ActiveLink instructions online can give you more information about how this works.
For me personally, I’ve found that the ActiveLink device motivates me to get more active and helps me to consistently earn more PointsPlus values that I was earning without this activity monitor. I think this is a great product for anyone who wants to burn more calories throughout the day and adhere more closely to the Weight Watchers program. It all starts with understanding your activity base line. You can ask your Weight Watchers leader any other questions you may have about the ActiveLink activity monitor.
