Many people look up to their bosses and perhaps, learn from them. The income people earn at this company might be the only income they have in an effort to support their family. A good boss would have to be insightful of that.It is important how you represent yourself as a boss, how you lead, and what you can do for your employees in attempt to form a positive work environment and maximize employee productivity.
A few of the many skills required are mentioned below:
Listening should be number one on the list. This is the basic and most essential attribute a good leader should possess. Hearing the words is not the same as comprehending the words. Listening means avoiding distractions and paying attention to what another party is saying and acknowledging that you listen. A simple head nod can be enough to tell another person you are listening.
People deserve to be treated with respect. The saying “treat others the same way you would like to be treated,” is very true. Just think about it. If you don’t think you should be treated with disrespect, than neither does the other person.
I cannot stress enough how effective communication is important in the business field as well as outside of work. It is a key element in achieving a successful relationship with employees, vendors, and others. Talk, talk, and talk to each other. Encourage employees to come to you and speak freely about potential problems and try to find a resolution together. Also, encourage employees to converse with each other more effectively to minimize confusion, irritation, and increase productivity.
Say thank you
From time to time give your employees a “gold star.” After all, they work hard for their money and they deserve it. Writing a simple thank you note and leaving it on their desks or handing the note personally will most likely make them feel appreciated for their hard work. Be creative in your notes.
Respect your customers
Respecting your customers does not just potentially ensure repeat business, but sets you apart as a good role model others should follow. Employees are not the only people attention should be given to. Yes, a good boss should make sure their employees are well respected and appreciated, but let’s not forget that employees are there to serve the customers.
Building a quality business goes back to being a good role model within the organization. Making money is important, but having a solid reputation will most likely make employees feel proud to be a part of a team.
Some companies tend to give people 5 days vacation. Is this really enough for a family to spend time together? Families are important, so allow employees 10 days vacation at minimum.
In a nutshell
A good boss is nice, respectful, and tolerant. A good boss enforces a positive thinking and positive working relationship within the company. A good boss encourages effective communication, listens well, respects and understands others. A good boss is a good mentor. He or she teaches others how to be better at what they do and supports employees in climbing higher within the company.
