Most TV watchers are also DVR watchers, I can say I spend half my TV time watching live or what I have recorded to watch later. I was raised in a time where TV choices where far a few and if you like cartoons you had to wait till Saturday morning. That is not true for today. We have so many choices to watch what ever we want. The problem is that not all TV is safe for everyone, and the DVR is a valuable tool. Unfortinly the TV people over look what goes on the DVR? There are a few main stream shows that I DVR, just because watching them is impossible on the night they air, so I record them which I feel that things we DVR are actually shows we enjoy more than others. Watching a show on the DVR is great because I am in control of the show.
TV has changed so much with the DVR, I have one of my favorites and pretty much everyone in the world loves it yet I have not even watched one of the current episodes, they are just piling up waiting for me to watch. Not because I don’t have time. It is because I want to watch every single minute of it without stopping, so I will watch till the end and dive in. I know for the people that have to pay for the shows it sucks because of advertising. I still watch enough TV that I see them.
TV companies are just mad crazy if they pull shows because people don’t watch it that night. There are just too many choices out there, some nights I feel like laughing and some I want to watch something that makes my mind work. I enjoy Friday night TV when my kids are still asleep early Saturday morning, made possible by my DVR.
There are a ton of shows that have a ton of fans, and lot of those fans or DVR or even internet watchers of the show. I have two small kids so making time to sit down right when a show starts doesn’t even happen for the shows my kids like, the pause button or rewind button decals have worn off the remote, that is why the DVR is a life saver, even for shows my children like to watch.
The only issue with the DVR is that letting go can be hard, some shows are watched and deleted, who has the space for saving everything. There are shows that get low ratings on the night they aired but that doesn’t mean they don’t have fans. There are many shows that I am glad I took a chance on and recorded them. One good example for me when NBC when crazy and promoted the hell out of Do No Harm then pulled it after a few episodes, I saved in my DVR to record and then one day I saw and I just let them build up and I watched them all at once, I was glad I did, very good show. Like all shows it has a little silly and crazy in it, but a good show keeps going and finds an audience and sometimes that audience is watching through a DVR or even off the internet.
The truth is that even some shows can not be saved even by the magic of the DVR.
